Got my Savage bolt back from Keith today and I love it! I had everything cerakoted dark earth and the Marksman Tactical knob installed. I can't say enough good things about the work he does. If anyone is considering having a knob installed on their Remington or Savage, I highly recommend giving Keith a call first. He can do just about anything you want. Here are some pics. Thanks again Keith...ANDY
I just got 3 bolts back and had two of them totally cerakoted and one just the knob done. I have to say that the work is very well done and that I will get a couple more done shortly as well as get the whole bolt on my third one finished up. I should have taken care of it all at one time. Anyways, +3 for all of my bolts getting taken care of in a very short time period and done well. Thanks Keith, RG
I have a Rem 798 that needs one of these. You you need a bolt to make a fixture from I will let you use mine. Until then I'm stuck with an undersized knob.
Keith...received my modified Phoenix knob today and just wanted to say thanks...craftsmanship is 2nd to none! For those who are contemplating utilizing Keith's talent...go for it! Great communication, fast turn-around, excellent craftmanship, and exceptional value!
Here's a Long action and Short action Remington 700 Cerakoted black up to the lugs. The long action has the Phoenix knob, and the short action has the Varminter
Here's another bolt completely Cerakoted, with a Phoenix knob
And yet another Phoenix knob installed, polished to match the Stainless 5R bolt

I'm going to post a small prices list here, that I have recently updated on my website.
Bolt knob installs are still $75. This includes coating the knob. To have the handle coated to match the knob, it's just $5 extra To have the bolt shroud coated to match the knob, it's $5 extra To have the ENTIRE bolt Cerakoted, it's $30 extra(this includes the shroud and handle)
So, for example, to get a knob installed and EVERYTHING Cerakoted, it's $105 total.
I get asked a lot whether a customer should have us coat the entire bolt. Well, the answer I give is this, "if your bolt is anything except a brand new BLACK bolt from Remington, I'd get it completely coated". The reason I say black, is because I hate the look of stainless bolt bodies and if you hunt, this shine can give you away. The only time I reccomend not doing it, is if your bolt is brand new, and the color already fits your application. Cerakote does act as a dry lube after it's worked down. We use a dab of Tetra grease on the shroud threads, a few drops of snake oil on the F-pin spring, and measure firing pin protrusion on every bolt that goes through our shop.
We treat your bolt like our own and we spare no expense in doing it right.
If you have us do everything we offer to your bolt(bolt knob, aluminum firing pin assembly, and Cerakote), it will come back feeling like a different bolt. It will weigh less, dry fire smoother, have quicker locktime, and function smoother.
Thank you Keith Johns

I've always quoted turn around time at 3 days. It has been 3 days since I was using Durabake, a bake on instant cure coating. Now we use Cerakote air cure. It's MUCH stronger, and well worth the extra money for me. It takes 5 days to completely cure, and about 48 hours before you can ship it and not worry at all.
It's been hard to get things out in 3 days since I need 1-2 days for cure time. I've had the urge to rush shipping and not allow total cure time needed. Luckily, we havent had a problem with scratching during shipping or reassembly yet.
From now on, my quoted turn around time wil be 3-5 days. Most things will go out in 3 still, but if I need another day or two to allow it to cure correctly, I'm going to let it. No sence in rushing a job well done.
We put a lot of hard work into your bolts. Most people just screw on a Badger knob. We turn out knobs in house, fit them to each individual bolt handle, Cerakote, and we clean up every bolt that comes through. This is why we cant claim 1-2 day turn arounds like some of the others.
Thanks Keith Johns, AZ Precision

3-5 day turn around. 3 is the norm. Shipping takes most of the time. When bolts are shipped to me to have work done, it takes about 10 business days on average. 3-4 days for shipping both ways, and 3 days in my shop.
If there are certain cases where a person needs it back in no time, like in the case of duty rifles, call me. We'll work something out.
Thanks again

Keith, just got my 5R polished Varminter back, and WOW! It feels and looks fantastic. Shipping is very slow to/from south Florida apparently, but it was worth the wait.
I will be sending another 700 long action bolt for another Varminter and to have the whole bolt/knob cerakoted in black in 2-3 weeks. It's a new gun and I can't let go of it so soon....
Thanks for the great workmanship! Strats (aka Ray)

Please let me know if you can do one down the road. Thanks.

This isn't the actual knob I will be selling. But within two weeks I will be offering a bolt knob about the size of a Badger, that has a 1/2" hex opening in the end. Shooters can then use their bolt as a wrench to loosen or tighten their scope rings. Many of the popular companies use 1/2" nuts on their scope rings.
Again, the pic above isn't the actual product I'll be offering. The ones I sell will be seamless, and come Cerakoted.
Price of these knobs is undecided, but will be around $25 extra.
If you have any ideas for attachments that can go in a knob that you might be interested in purchasing, let me know.
Thanks Keith Johns
btw, we're fully caught up and have been slow this past week. Lets get some orders in!
Thanks guys

Keith, that's a great addition to the services you already offer! It's an excellent idea to incorporate that socket into the bottom of the knob - might as well have the tools you need close by, I'm sure that it will be a hit. I'm anxiously waiting to get my bolt back from you, (sent on the 29th)and am hoping that it'll come soon.

Your bolt has shipped a while ago. You'll get it today I bet.
And turning your bolt into a 1/2" wrench wasnt my idea. There will be someone else putting one out soon I think. But I havent seen one out yet and know nothing of anyones design.
Again, the pic above isnt what the product will be like. There wont be a seam, and it will be completely Cerakoted.
Thanks Keith Johns

I appreciate the update, and I wasn't implying that the wrench in the knob was your idea, I was just politely commending you for jumping at this opportunity to tool "your own version" of it. I'm aware that they're already out there and in use. Looking forward to my bolt coming, and I may have another one to send out, soon as well.
Thanks Keith!

If you post that question in one of the general forums, you'll be more likely to get an answer. Start a thread in rifles or gunsmithing. I'm sure there's several members on here in the UK.
Thank you

I decided to re-shape my shroud today; just to be different.
Here are the pics, before re-Cerakoting it.
Put a 60 degree shoulder on the two rounded edges, and shortened the shroud by about .100". I'm considering removing a very small amount of material from the rear of the cocking piece, to further lighten the firing pin, and thus quickening locktime even more. With the aluminum firing pin assemblies I use, combined with this modification, your firing pin assembly will be quite possibly the lightest on the market.

Sounds good. We're starting this week fully caught up. Turn around time will be quick for the next couple weeks. Good time to mail your bolt in before the holidays are here.
Thanks Keith Johns

Can You do a Savage 110 bolt? I was thinking the tapered one with knurling would be good.

Yes I can do Savages. I'm not offering knurling right now though. I need to get a new knurling bar, and I havent really been happy with the feel of knurled knobs.
Thanks Keith Johns
