Review, first impressions, thoughts.
Black Friday is here, and while everyone’s hunting for deals, I wanted to share my experience with a couple of tools that I got to play with and share our honest thoughts about: the Shooters Global SG 2.0 and SG GO shot timers.
I had the chance to test both timers with a variety of firearms, and honestly? I came away impressed. With the time I had, I didn’t find any major downsides—just features that made my testing sessions smoother and more effective. Clear user friendly interface and data for training came easy, but the real bonus these shot timers provide vs competitors is the app that accompanies the timer and features within it. Of course, different people will have different needs, but for anyone serious about improving their craft, these timers offer efficiency, useful data, and clear ways to track and grow.
The Timers at a Glance
Shooters Global has two new offerings this year:
- SG 2.0
- SG GO
Both timers share the same core functionality and connect seamlessly to the Shooters Global app. But here’s the differences I thought could matter:
- SG 2.0:
- Features a large, user-friendly screen.
- Waterproof.
- Comes with a magnetic holder for convenient mounting.
- SG GO:
- Smaller screen with fewer on-device options.
- Not waterproof.
- Clips securely to your belt and is easy to remove.
If you’re the kind of shooter who prefers a standalone device, the SG 2.0 is a standout with its larger screen and faster navigation. However, both are super intuitive, so you’ll be up and running in no time no matter which you choose.
The Features That Stood Out in terms of shot timers as a whole
Both the 2.0 and the GO bring some game-changing features to the table when compared to other shot timers I have used:
- Versatility: Whether you’re dry firing, airsoft training, shooting suppressed, or going full-blast with unsuppressed rounds, these timers have you covered.
- Clear Sound: The speaker volume is loud and clear, even with heavy ear protection on.
- Battery Life: Excellent on both models, so you’re not stuck recharging every other session.
- Training App Integration:
- The app logs your sessions automatically when the timer syncs.
- You can overlay data onto videos recorded during training.
- It also offers drills, stages, and other resources to spice up your sessions.
If you’re someone who loves digging into training data or spicing things up with drills and stages, the app integration is a huge win.
The Bottom line
Let’s talk numbers. The SG 2.0 costs about twice as much as the SG GO, but in my experience, both are worth the investment. The 2.0 offers more convenience with its larger screen and waterproofing, while the GO is a more budget-friendly option that still delivers the same great core functionality.
I think anyone serious about their training will find real value in these timers. Whether you’re a data nerd, a video analysis junkie, or just someone looking for simple, effective tools to improve, these devices will fit right into your daily gear rotation.
If you’re on the fence, now might be a good time to snag one for yourself.
