Night Vision MX-11769 Elbit troubleshooting tips?

Turned on a WP Elbit PVS 14 today and the tube didn't turn on. I tested by turning on the IR illum and the red IR indictor came on. Changed out the battery anyways and still no luck.

Tore the unit apart and tested the housing with another tube and it worked just fine.

Applied power directly to the tube and it still didn't turn on.

I really hope it's not the tube because I bought it used (no warranty) and is still fairly new. Any suggestions? Is there anything else I can try?

Bartlein 2B, 3, 3B weights

Looking to make sub-16lbs on a .308W build. I’m left with about 2lbs on the barrel (AI AX) and from other recommendations here, I inquired about a Bartlein 3B, which Southern Precision says is going to be too heavy. They recommended a 2B or 3, but dont have weights for a 16.5” prefit. Does anyone have these barrels or weights on hand?

In case my ramblings are tough to digest, I’m asking for:

-16.5” .308W #2B Bartlein barrel weight
-16.5” .308W #3 Bartlein barrel weight
-16.5” .308W #3B Bartlein barrel weight

New Marine Corps Ad...

Methinks that at least the Marine Corps is getting the message that there is a new sheriff in town...

New ad is really well done. Focus on being a warrior. And how you have to earn an EGA.

The new ad catch phrase is excellent:

"You don't join the Marines. You become one."

Nicely done USMC advertising and recruiting folks! Finally, aiming at the kids who want to become Marines for the right reasons!

Boeing Claims It Will Be Ready for Pilotless Air-Taxi Flights by End of Decade.

Boeing-owned Wisk Aero is making strides towards introducing autonomous air-taxis, with plans to commence passenger flights “later in the decade” as it collaborates with U.S. regulators for necessary approvals.
Reuters reports that Wisk Aero, a subsidiary of Boeing, is at the forefront of developing electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, aiming to revolutionize urban transportation with its autonomous air-taxis. The company’s CEO, Brian Yutko, announced at the Farnborough Airshow that Wisk is currently in the process of testing and producing components for their aircraft, with hopes to conduct test flights by the end of this year.

The air-taxi industry has seen a surge in companies developing eVTOL aircraft in recent years, all promising to provide an eco-friendly alternative for travel in congested urban areas. However, the sector faces significant challenges, both technological and regulatory. One of the primary hurdles is the development of batteries powerful enough to enable multiple trips on a single charge, a crucial factor for operational efficiency and economic viability.

Wisk’s approach stands out in the industry due to its focus on fully autonomous four-seater aircraft with a projected range of 90 miles. This strategy diverges from other major air-taxi manufacturers who are developing piloted models. Wisk argues that their autonomous approach will lead to cost savings for operators by eliminating pilot expenses.

Despite the company’s optimism, industry analysts remain skeptical about the timeline for certification and widespread adoption of autonomous air-taxis. A report by Bain suggests that full autonomous passenger flights may not be realized until the late 2030s. The report also highlights potential competition from autonomous ground vehicles, which could impact the air-taxi market.

Regulatory hurdles present another significant challenge for Wisk and similar companies. Convincing regulators and the public of the safety of these aircraft is crucial, particularly for autonomous models. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will play a pivotal role in the approval process, and Wisk is actively working with the regulator to secure the necessary certifications.
The economic viability of air-taxi services is another area of focus. Mattia Celli, one of the authors of the Bain report, emphasizes the importance of maximizing passenger occupancy and avoiding empty return trips for operator profitability. These factors will be critical in determining the success of air-taxi services in the competitive urban mobility landscape.

Wisk’s journey began as a joint venture between Boeing and Kitty Hawk Corp before becoming a fully-owned subsidiary of Boeing last year. This backing from one of the world’s largest aerospace companies provides Wisk with significant resources and expertise as it navigates the complex path to bringing autonomous air-taxis to market.

Even as Boeing boasts of its pilotless air-taxi plans, it continues to have trouble building and maintaining traditional human-flown aircraft. The company recently pleaded guilty to fraud charges over the crashes of its infamous 737 MAX airliner.

Bergara Ballistic Calculations / Error

I have used a ballistic calculator before with surprisingly great results. I have used both an app version and different online versions, with a Rem 10/22 with a Kidd barrel and trigger job, zero at 50 yards, went to 100 yards and 200 yards and calculations were basically very close.

I upgraded to a Bergara B14R and so far love it. I zeroed at 50 yards (also have a 20 MOA rail which I had on the 10/22) with a Vortex scope. I am using just standard CSI 22LR, 40 grain, 1070 fps according to the box information. Again, same ammo I used with the 10/22. According to the calculations, my 100 yard MOA should be around 7 give or take on temp etc... I was way high with the Bergara and ended up needing 6 MOA at 100 yards.

To get that calculation in the calculators to be correct, the bullet velocity needed to be more like 1150 fps, not 1070 fps.

Question 1 - would the Bergara be getting that kind of velocity compared to a semi auto like the 10/22?
Question 2 - does adjusting the bullet velocity as the variable to correct real life DOPE findings be the best way to adjust these calculations?
Question 3 - if yes to question 2, could I expect the calculations out to 200 and 300 yards to be accurate?

Thanks for any advice!
Bill

M1C / MC-52 scope

finally pick up a M1C (MC-52), been looking at them since i was a kid looking in my fathers books

like most things of that era, especially marine corps the build was a mash-up of available parts they made work

they did wind up using 2-3 versions (depending on what books you cite) of the same civilian scope

originally they used the Kollmorgan sniper scope MC1 M1952 which was really a Bear cub with non-capped/ target turrets and some markings

sometime during procurement, the target turrets vanished and regular coin slot scopes were used

originally raised turret MC1 scopes are like finding bigfoot, and if you do find them once every 4-5 years they are already sold for 4-5K.

i have the period correct scope but of course, im always looking, like we all do

although both used;

top scope while correct is not the original solicitation...bottom scope has target turrets

long story short, does anyone know of a reproduction company that specializes in old obscure optics

Swiss K31 as a sniper rifle

I have a Swiss K31 that shoots very well so much that I would like to convert it to the extent possible as a sniper rifle. But I don't want to put any modern scope that is readily available on it. I would like to keep it a close to what an original would be. Does anyone know what is the best scope in this situation. I understand the the Valdada is as close as any but new ones are as much as a Nightforce. Problem is I have drawn a blank on locating a vintage scope feedback from anyone with a source would be appreciated.
