I sure as hell am not made of money. But before I got married and had kids I bought pretty much what I want. Not so much anymore. If I want something cool I pretty much have to get rid of something else that might be cool to get it. I have a good peice of glass (vortex razor gen 2 4.5-27) on top of a Seekins Havak 6.5cm/KRG bravo combo. Love it. I had a RPR 6.5 that kind of took a back seat but then I had this bright idea to cut the barrel to 17”. I previously picked up a Leupold LRP 6.5-20 at a good deal to have for it as it was going to be more of a back up/loaner rifle that wouldn’t get shot as much as the other. Now that it’s cut down, it’s short, lighter, and handy as shit. It’s Probably going to be more of a even split round count bow between the two.
Problem: razor turned me into a glass snob. This LRP is a nice little scope for the money but I almost feel like I’m doing the rifle a disservice. A Kahles 318 with the skmr3 has been pulling at my heart for awhile especially since this compact rifle project has finished. But that kinda jack isn’t in the near or even foreseeable future. I have a scar 16 and an SBR that doesn’t see the light of day other than when someone else wants to fondle them. If I shoot I break out the interesting rifles. I’d really like the just off one and be down to one lead hose and get the Kahles, but the practical me says to keep them both and be happy with what I have now. Anybody struggle with stupidness like that or am I just a little bitch?

Your struggle is my struggle. Please let me know when you find the cure. I’m going down to Phoenix Custom Rifles tomorrow to pick up a Bighorn TL3 build that I absolutely did not need. Sold a couple of things to fund it and at some point will probably sell it to fund something else.

I have the same disease... I'm not sure there is a cure for it other than scratch the itch when you feel it.

By far my favorite scope has been the Hensoldt 4-16. Getting rid of it is my only regret so far.

Id probably go with the Kahles because even if you decide to get rid of one of the bolt guns you'll still have a great piece of glass for the next build none of us ever need

Just to muddy the waters, the Kahles will probably always be legal. The SCAR maybe not so much.
Guess how much you'll suddenly want a SCAR after you sell yours and they get banned...

I never like the idea of selling guns. I understand why some have to and I've done it before. I would rather sell plasma.

I think all but a fortunate few have been in your place. I started with building a do-it-all rifle and realized it didnt do it all. I put good glass on it, and did load development and got it where I wanted it to be but I never really loved it. So I saved and saved and bought an RPR. I put a bushnell dmr2 on it, and like it more than my first custom build. I got some pressure from a friend to buy an AI AT. To pay for it, I had to sell the custom gun, the RPR, the DMR2, and a pistol I never used. Now that I have the AI, I really have zero regrets. I could have probably kept more of what I sold. In hindsight, I really dont miss anything i got rid of. I would have just had more guns in the safe with only 1 that was getting used

Thats been my thought process for awhile. I guess I’m just trying to justify my thought process at this point in time haha. I’ve done it, dont like it much lol. But it’s been a nessesary evil at times.

I’ve also thought about getting a Leupold MK5 3.6-18 and building a 16” upper with what’s left. But I can’t get to into those reticle options. Thought I’d like the CCH but that’s whats in this LRP scope and don’t hate it but definitely don’t like it like I like the EBR2c or SKMR3.

There is no way I’d ditch a scar before a kahles.

Reasons:
1. Gun restrictions.
2. Optics technology advances much quicker than rifle tech
3. Compact bolt guns are stupid (imho)
4. That kahles is gonna break before the scar ever will
5. Resale. The scar will sell for a higher resale % and has US military contracts in its past.

Yeah, I'm guilty too. I'm trying to figure what I can sell to upgrade scopes right now. I've become a big believer of quality over quantity. If i look in my gunsafe and see something i haven't shot it months, it's getting sold to upgrade something else. I'm convinced this hobby is good training for money laundering.

I use to be on this train. At some point it just became too much. Too much I don’t shoot. Too much taking up space. Too much reloading components to support.

Tipping point was probably when I became a father. Time is valuable and I only shoot a select few now.

I sold a fully clone correct MK12MOD1 with an actual used mil return Pelican case and all the fixins to fund my Kahles 5-25. I do not regret it one bit. Sell the Scar and get the k318

OP, Like you i can appreciate good glass and reliable adjustments. My days of Simmons and Tasco are loooong gone.

I just put a Steiner Nighthunter Xtreme (msrp $2,900) on a $300 Marlin XS7 for my kid. So we are either normal to prefer good glass or we suffer from the same disease.

Oh, and I wouldn't sell a gun. Find a way to come up with the scratch for the Kahles.

If you HAVE to sell one, I'd sell the SCAR for reasons stated earlier (you've done the hard work with the SBR, and if it's an AR platform, it's far more versatile).

However, as others have stated, I'd probably keep the SCAR and slowly upgrade glass to the Kahles as time goes on. Save up, enjoy the LRP for now, and when you can, sell the LRP and put the funds from it towards the Kahles. My personal thought process on glass is to get something that meets your needs and is known for repeatable tracking. For me at the moment, that's the Bushnell LRHS/LRTS series. Glass is good enough, mag range is good enough (here in AZ, you're rarely going to go higher than 18x anyway due to mirage), and they track well. Then save until you can do the above, or keep saving until you can afford the better optic outright and keep the lower optic as a backup or for another project. Having an LRTS on an AI is a bit odd perhaps, but it works.

Glass can ALWAYS be sourced or replaced. A good rifle perhaps not so much, depending on who's in office or controls the House/Senate... And if you're in the SHTF camp, chances are good you'll use a carbine. If someone's far enough away that you need to use a dedicated precision rifle, chances are good you can avoid the confrontation. Food for thought, if you're in that camp.

Don't forget that one is none and two is one. You'll need to buy another SCAR or SBR (whichever you commit to) prior to the kahles (and then you'll have to buy two of that!)

In all seriousness if it's a Scar16 sell, Scar 17 keep. There's also financing options you can pursue to acquire the scope as well if you don't want to downsize.
My thoughts are keep only what shoot. The guns you don't use aren't paying rent to justify the space they take up.

Scar 16 Black with KDG stock and MREX forend w/ Geiessele super scar.

I know the RPR isn’t the highest quality of rifles out there but it’s a little hammer and love how compact it is. Fits it my little sneaky bag that I have for the SBR.
