Anyone who believes they will stop at 'military' weapons is delusional. They want nothing less than a completely disarmed society, to include your guns, knives, and other scary items.
After the parkland shooting a local radio host actually said "an ar 15 is ridiculous for hunting because it would annihilite a deer to the point you couldn't even eat it".

It will begin with buzz words or phrases to denigrate firearms such as:
Military sniper type rifle
Extreme long range rifles
Capable of shooting through a car door or other things
Assassin's tool
Far more powerful than is necessary for target shooting
Too destructive
Founding fathers didn't envision personal firearms this powerful
causes horrific wounds
more powerful than is necessary for reasonable hunting
designed for military purposes
etc, etc, etc. Logic be damned, it is all about feelings and creating fear and distrust.
I fully expect anti-gun people to denigrate or vilify firearms one type by one type until there are none left. By picking one firearm type at a time, they divide and conquer the pro-gun people who may not have whatever type of firearms is currently being attacked. Pro gun people will think "I don't have that type of firearm, so I don't have to worry about anything." To which I say, "Give them time, eventually, they will get around to your preferred firearm type and by then there will be no one left who is interested in helping you."
This same idea of "it doesn't apply to me" was said quite well before:

We are getting a nice view to how it goes down by watching NZ where the people are a bit more sheeple than most.
First they used a "public outrage" to do an end run and get rid of all "assault rifles" then the went after all semi autos and just now they are pushing to ban any bolt actions that look "too military" or have features they don't like even if cosmetic.
Of course the people over there are such brainwashed sheep the stupid hunters actually are saying yes because it's wrong if someone puts decals or useless plastic cosmetic bits on their bolt gun to make it a bit more dress up looking.

I have this theory that the reason the Democrats want to ban guns is because most of the shootings, you know the day to day ones that occur in places like Chicago where there are frequently 3,000 or more a year and a 1,000 deaths, not the mass shootings that the media harps about, involve populations that comprise a large majority of The Democratic Party. I mean if you do the math, you will see that a large majority of the perpetrators and the victims are from groups that historically have voted Democrat. And so the Dems want to ban guns because shootings are decreasing their constituency. Many think it is due to a socialist drive to disarm the public to gain physical superiority. It may be a combination of the two. But both the Reps and Dems are not without their problems. It is one of the reasons I have started to vote 3rd party whenever I can.

"Assault weapons ban" is just a politically palatable buzzword that will eventually come to mean "all guns ban". We are fighting a political battle the likes of which we have never seen.

I think that I have too many different calibers to support and stockpile ammo for to ensure my ability to shoot whatever I want for the rest of my life....but I’m gonna try anyway!

Its not even about guns, it is about destroying your way of life, and you along with it unless you are amenable to changing. It starts with one type of weapons, historically the flavor of the day has been handguns and now "assault weapons," but also remember the hysteria 20 years ago when the DC sniper was running around. No, the Left likes to strut around the idea of "compromise" (which it isn't at all because we get nothing in return-compromise would be reopening the machinegun registry in exchange for classifying bumpstocks as machineguns): "oh just give us your semiautos, you can keep everything else." Then they'll let it sink in a while and go for the next increment: "handguns account for most firearm deaths, you can keep your bolt and lever actions and shotguns." Then every other rifle will be made out to be a "sniper rifle," and we've all seen how destructive shotguns are in video games.
But we already know it doesn't stop there, they're already calling for your vehicle because it runs on fossil fuel. The power grid is so far away from being able to support replacement of ICE vehicles that transportation will be severely restricted. They're already using climate change to demonize livestock and agriculture.
Make no mistake, this is about more than guns, and anyone who doesn't see or admit it is either too stupid to see it or lying through their teeth. The information operation campaign waged by our media already has people clamoring to have their own rights stripped away. Look at red flag laws for example, not only do they want denial of 2A rights without due process through property seizure, they're targeting your right to face an accuser based on your exercise of your 1A.

Now it is about party politics and the largest donors. The candidates could be freshman with a message but once they get to D.C. they are conditioned for the most part to vote in favor of the largest donors. To not do so would be divergent and result in party banishment and loss of support for the next election.
I think this is why some guys give their monster mud trucks and guns pet names like buffy and little birdy and so forth. Kind of hides their significance and makes them more palatable for the uninitiated. Or why do you call the biggest guy in the squad "tiny," that type of thing.

The term, "assault weapon" was invented to fool the stupid and gullible (which this country has lots of) into thinking guns with certain looks are bad. It was a genius plan that worked like a charm.
If you follow this gun control mindset to fruition, eventually the only way a utopia can be achieved is to get rid of the gun owner.
The gun debate is a convenient diversion for an elected body that is protecting other special interests such as the manufacturers of bad food products and other cancer causing products the consumer regularly buys. The gun debate is graphic and visual, good for the ignorant who don't know how to read or don't care to, and it has a casualty figure, much like that which is used in a war. Also, it makes them look like they are doing something when in fact they can't balance the budget or reduce the deficit, either. Most states have a balanced budget amendment but not the federal government. It's a monster run amuck and the elected have created and are feeding the monster.

Nascar might see it as a form of competition. Instead of guys going out to the range on Sunday or hunting during the season, Nascar would rather have them at home sitting in front of the tv eating food made with fructose and corn syrup and drinking beer fermented with corn syrup and buying the products Nascar sponsors. Of the hundreds of thousands "prohibited weapons" they have recieved a grand total of 20k firearms and 75k parts. People seem to be cashing in all the old shit as the government are paying more than street value for them.

Yeah, I get it. But I don't vote against what I am afraid of, as is the situation described in the video. I vote for what I believe in. The two major parties want you to think there is a choice, but there really isn't a choice, there is only the illusion of choice and that's why things don't change here in The US. I'm sure you have heard that there is often very little distinction between the two final candidates (we are not only talking about the Presidential election and candidates have even switched parties (really?!) just to make sure they get elected. Take Reagan for example, at first he was a Democrat. Now how can that be. The two ideologies are supposedly diametrically opposed). Some believe there is collusion between the two major parties, which I believe effectively shuts out any others.
Don't vote for what you fear the other candidate will do. That's how the two parties want it. Vote for what you believe in. How else are you going to get a candidate that believes in what you want? This country suffers from an elected body that rules by fear. Since things don't change here much, why not make a change in the way you vote?

However, eventually, the anti-gun forces will get to whatever firearm you have by saying things like:
1. It is an assassin's weapon
2. It is a military weapon.
3. No hunter needs a cartridge that powerful.
4. That is a long distance sniper's rifle set up for assassinations.
5. No decent hunter needs more than one well placed shot for hunting.
6. The military uses those cartridges, so they are far too deadly to be on our streets.
7. No one needs that many rounds for self defense (when they decide a 5 shot revolver has too many rounds in it).
8. 30 rounds are too many, then 10 rounds will be too many, then 6 rounds will be too many..
Be assured, eventually, the anti-gun forces will get around to your firearm, your cartridge, or whatever you own. It wouldn't surprise me if they used the logic that the revolution was won with flintlock firearms, therefore flintlocks are military grade and proven deadly, so they shouldn't be allowed.
