General Sherman was rooster cogburns cat wasn’t it…….

Rooster Cogburn was a proud gentlemen of the… Southern persuasion. Maybe a bit gone to seed with age and hard living. But he would no more name a cat General Sherman than I would name one General Miley.

Unless it was like some really Ghey-assed cat.

And General Sherman is not. If he had opposed thumbs, he would burn Atlanta. Not that any of us would stop him these days.

Well, time to get up and start buttering the corn dodgers!!

Man, sorry to hear that. Racing is the best. I race a 2013 Mustang Gt with NASA Texas region. I had to take a break to get my house in order. Too much CC debit because of racing and trying to support my FIL in another country. Got that all squared away and now it's time to save for the kids college. I would love to see some picture of the car!

Old pics of the car:

I dug through them yesterday, ready for a photo bomb.

The Opel started life as a total rust bucket, if you opened both doors you had to put a jack in the center of the car to lift it back up, it would not close. Total POS.

It started life as an ITB car, and ended up as an FP car. It was really fun, and the thing sounds so good. Chevy 265 pistons fit very nice, so it is basically half of that and it sounds like it, cam in head and it is a very deep rumble, a sound that is that is coming out of that car.

The 1st gen MR2 was my first race car and it was also an ITA car. Fun car, a real monster in the rain, I took an over all in the rain in that car. Puts power down very well, lift in a turn and it will bite you hard.

944 my wife killed cones with, just tossed that in for giggles.

Yep, my balls never quite grew into the available downforce.
video from the early days, got into the mid 1;30s later

T-shirt, no gloves and looks like open face helmet. When I was doing it you are head to toe covered, basically long underwear, the suit, gloves, head sock, you sweated like a fucking pig. I would hydrate for the two weeks before the race, I know it was going to be bad.

Then I got a cool shirt. What a life changing invention.

For those that don't know, it is basically a t-shirt with a tube that runs all around your back and chest, you have a cooler filled with ice water and a little pump to move it through the shirt. I was already running and getting hot, I flipped the switch and it felt like someone poured cold water all over me. Thinking I had a leak I turned it off.......then I said screw it and turned it back on again. There was no leak it just felt like it.

I was amazed at how much more "fresh" my mind was after I got that gizmo, it was fantastic.

Those cars get very hot.

I so want to go see that race sometime. But it is an absolute circus and just getting a tent site is ridiculous.

So... going to watch on TV. I think Vintage LeMans might be more fun.

BTW, the 24 Hours of Daytona is absolutely the best race I ever went to. So much fun. No crowds. And great time of year to not be in New England.

I drove a friends Kawasaki Ninja H2 over the weekend. A Supercharged Crotch-Rocket.
I’ve owned some fast bikes , driven a NHRA Super Stock Vette capable of upper 9.0 second , 140 mph 1/4 mile passes. ALL seem slow in comparison.
I went from 60 mph to 150 mph instantly , even shifting at lower RPM’s. NEVER have had the front tire lift going 120 mph !! Cleaned out my shorts , gave it back to my friend , fucking Insane to think of hitting 200+ mph 🫣

I made a few passes in a 6-second 200-mph Fuel Altered back in the day.
I made a single low 8-second pass on a Funny Bike, and it made me weak in the knees when I got off.
The bike went faster. I just lacked the intestinal fortitude to do it!
I'll keep my roll cage surroundings thank you very much. LOL

A friend of mine has an Alcohol Altered that’s scary ! He has a pic of Walter Cronkite painted on the doors , he named her “ Altered Walter” 😂
I‘m way to old to be going 150+ often , but it was a rush 👍🇺🇸

Det cord wouldn't knock a tree down that size.
That depends on how many times you wrap it... besides, people who have det cord also tend to have C4....

(though I’ll admit the original tree is way too thick for anything but a 250lb’er)

Never heard of detcord?
Forest Service gets real pissy.

Neither will a single stroke of an axe.

Might be a little big for detcord, lol

Well it would be a nice alternative to beating wedges

I'm not expert on chopping down trees or explosives but the videos are very interesting.

I always liked the MR2. I wish that Toyota still made it.

Not that I wouldn’t want to, but somehow drilling 4 holes in an 8” tree, packing with explosives, then bucking up logs with a chainsaw and moving them with excavators doesn’t seem like a super efficient way of clearing a landing zone. Again, fun , but the practically vs just tipping them over with the excavator…

Oh yes it would! You just have to wrap it enough times. Primacord was used in VN and Borneo to clear huge trees to make LZ’s.

Cheers, Sirhr

A now passed EOD bud said he was called out to drop a tree outside a firebase. Took a look, fair sized, wrapped what he thought was sufficient detcord, added a cap and time fuze and pulled the M60. Surprised it didn't fall, he walked over to inspect. Said it did little damage and he was later told it was an ironwood tree.

DISCLAIMER: I was not there and he told many stories that began, "This ain't no shit..."

Just a PSA for all you folks, especially in Northern New England.

Keep your cars locked and your windows rolled up. Otherwise people will break into your car and leave zucchini.

Wife left the driver door open when she went to fill up her Durango with gas at the local station.

Small town, pop 150

When she went to get back in, had a yellow lab as a passenger😄

Had to buy a stick of jerky to get him out😂

Go back several years, when the Daytona Prototypes came on scene. They replaced the le mans prototypes that had been the thing for decades. Why the change?

View attachment 8195333

This is when it died to me, and I have not followed it from that day to now.

The DP's are (IMHO) following the NASCAR spec- series racing that nascar has become. If you like that all and good. If you like the innovation then not so good. This is why you don't see the same cars at le mans running in any of these races anymore.

To me it looked like they took nascar, le mans, Can-am, tossed it all in a bag to mix it all up and out fell a Daytona prototype. The first years are not kind to the DP's not even taking the over all win at Daytona their first year, so nascar does what nascar does and cripple the under classes to make their preferred classes faster. Then the TV coverage basically switched to only the DP class and not the "production based" cars. I was done. It is nascar on a road course.

Back in the day it was all busted out into different bodies, now not so much.

Back when I was racing, I ran in the SCCA, NASA was just then really getting going and IMSA was for the guys with deep pockets. SCCA was on the slide down and NASA was on the way up. Lots of club drivers, IMHO what is keeping, or at the time kept SCCA afloat (not the cone crashers) started to really jump ship for NASA. They took our Lic, passed our cars, it was no big deal at all to run both bodies at the time.

This is also the height of the power of NASCAR, and they started to grab other bodies, and form it into what Bill, and later coke head Brian France wanted it to be. Only issue was no one know what the hell Brian france was thinking. And that was the start of the slide for them.

I babbled.

Had an invite to Sebring, but I did not want to haul my car down there, looking back should have done it.
