I'm a big fan of Joel Salatin - he wrote a lot of common sense books on farming and livestock. Subversion like, "raising animals on grass is probably a better thing on the whole than raising them on concrete". He's a mixed livestock farmer and activist from (I think) Virginia. Worth reading if you have the time.
