I was lucky to learn from some successful racers. For drag racing, getting the power applied in the shortest line from A to B is one of the keys.

I really had a blast in the mid-60's to mid-70's muscle car era. You could sit/stand in the engine bay on some cars. They were common sense designs that kicked ass. If you could get tire/shock/spring(bar)/drivetrain to work, you'd have fun. I've never gone faster than mid 8's in the 1/4 in a car and 9's on a bike but that's fast enough to get a pump.

Nice. I decided to use my mechanical aptitude on factory cars instead of racing stuff. The only thing I’ve done is help my dad and uncle on my uncle’s dragster a little. And I don’t think I have the patience for any sort of racing, I have too many other interests. It’s all cool as shit though and takes waaaay more thought than most people think

But my father used to straddle the inline 6 of our maverick when he worked on it in the driveway.

Had a couple of 4x4’s he’d tell us to line up for his feet.
