I purchased a millett trs-1 scope for my Remmy 700 and the rings that are on is do not fit on the stock base nor do they on the weaver base i purchased. So what base will i need to fit on these dam rings. The ring brand is GGG. The millett scope is 30mm from what i have found on the web. The problem i am having is when i attach the rings to either base its seems they are to big and will not let the rings clamp on right. The middle part to the rings that connects into the slot of the base it too wide to fit in the slot of the bases. Please help guys i cant take my remmy to the range until i get this problem fixed.

Re: Need help on 700 base.

go get a caliper or micrometer and dubble check the 30mm and then get a different set of rings, or you and get different base, but the rings may be quick fix. when you say the stock base, i assume this is a 2 piece 0-moa base that comes on the varmint or sps package gun?? weather or not its 1 or 2 peice same fix, you have to get base to match up or rings to match your base quickest may be to grab a set of rings. Their is good chanch you might not be able to find base to fit your rings depending on where you are.

Respectfully

if your close to dayton i know their a gander mountian off of interstate 70

Re: Need help on 700 base.

I do have the varmint package. I want to keep the rings and i will use the internet to buy the base i just dont know what one

Re: Need help on 700 base.

Are they GG&G rings from prescott, az? Cause they make pretty quality parts. I'd venture what you have are designed for a picatinny/1913 spec base, thicker crossbolt than weaver spec. So just search for a Picatinny rail for your rifle. Badger, Nightforce, Weaver, GG&G, EGW, etc, etc, etc.

I used a 20 moa base so you can go out to 1000 yards if nassary in my opinion but if your just looking for a 0 moa or a "stock" base Remington 700 short action is one you need, if you want a 20 moa pm me and ill have too look through the receipt box and ill get you the exact one with the internet link i use, super fast shipping and $ was 1/2 of a badger

p.s. if you want to know what 20 moa vers 0 moa is jump to youtube hard to enplane on keyboard

Re: Need help on 700 base.

I can't 100% garentee but I know the slots in the rail are wider for the cross bolt and it's a hair wider I can measure and tell u specs tomarrow but ull have to pm me to remind

Re: Need help on 700 base.

I will say this as well a good little bit of bedding of the rail was needed so the scope was not strained if you don't know exactly what that means their a good explication on YouTube I can't rember the guy who did it but I can find out if need be

Re: Need help on 700 base.

Porter 24 I am not sure why you are having trouble finding a picatinny base, they are available all over the place. Midway, SWFA, Badger Ordanance, Triad Tactical, Euro Optic, CS Tactical, or Cameron Murphy from Murphy Precision off the top of my head ( there are dozens more I am sure. They are in the for sale columns as well.

As to manufacturer I like Nightforce, Badger and Murpy Precision ( Cameron is very easy to deal with. The next decision you need to make is MOA cant on the base. Most run 20 MOA, but sometimes more is needed.( I have run up to 45 MOA ). You also have a choice between one piece and two. One piece is the only way to go for me. I have used a two piece Nightforce and did not like it at all. The cross slot spacing was off so I could not swap a scope to another rifle with a one piece1913 picatinny base. As to EGW, stay way from them until they start using torx screws as there Allen screws are very easy to strip out, they are pretty much a one use affair.

Re: Need help on 700 base.

I know there are plenty of picatinny bases out there. I just dont want to purchases another one thats not going to fit my scope rings thats all

Re: Need help on 700 base.

You need a picatinny base, that is what is wrong with your current base, it is a Weaver spec base. Badger, Nightforce,Murphy Precision And EGW are all picatinny, just to name a few. I will bet the farm your rings are picatinny. ( also stay away from Farrell as the one I had was not a picatinny spec base.)

The keyword you need to look for is Picatinny.

Bottom line, get a good quality picatinny spec base.(Nightforce, Badger, Seekins, Murphy.)

Re: Need help on 700 base.

Re: Need help on 700 base.

If I had to pick one for myself it would likely be the 80002 20 MOA hd.( assuming you are running a short action Remington 700).

But keep in mind unless they have changed, there mount screws are terrible. You can mount and torque them down once, but expect problems the second time around if you can get them off without grinding the heads off. This is a common complaint. I like there bases but until they change to torx screws, I cannot whole heartedly endorse there product. If you do run an EGW get a high quality Allen bit and use a good torque wrench.

* I have had three EGW bases in the past, and still have one on my 10-22.

Re: Need help on 700 base.

GG&G does make one, its 0MOA, its on their site under Remington 700 accessories. Never used or seen it, but if that's what you were looking for its there.
Weaver makes a 20MOA extended PICATINNY rail with recoil lug that's very affordable, its aluminium, uses torx screws, does all the things I need a base to do. Picatinny rings will fit it. Did have to bed mine.
