I've read posts on using wet/dry sandpaper, or dremel contraptions, to time a break on a threaded barrel. I'd rather wait and get my smith to sand it. But curious...

Would it be wise to just time it not flush to the barrel and blue loctite it? or perhaps drill pins? Is there accuracy lost or safety risk when its not flush?

Re: muzz timing w/ blue or pins

I am confused, is the rig already threaded and its out of time? If so, it really should be indicated in and cut square. If it has not been fit, leave it alone and let the smith fit it. If you go sanding on it he is going to have to charge you to square it back up or it will look like crap.

I guess I'm asking if its ok to have it timed but not flush with barrel? Then pinned, welded, etc... Maybe even blue loc if for just a few rounds to see if I like it

you are going to pay nearly double if you want to take it out of the lathe to try it. You are looking at a whole setup all over again. You'll be money ahead to choose a proven design and jump in with both feet using a smith that does quality work.

Are you asking if you need the break to be timed to see if it works or not? Just thread it on and shoot it to see if you like it, and if you do then have it timed and installed. If not choose the next one...

Esentially this, yes. I know it will work, I'd just like to use it this weekend before I send to smithy

Re: muzz timing w/ blue or pins

David Tubbs likes to run his brakes at the 11 o'clock position to counteract rotational torque and he seems to shoot OK!! Hope this helps. Paul.
