Does anyone know about what one of these would be worth? I found one and the guy is asking $700 for it. It is .44mag, wood grips, its been used, but not abused. Thanks for the help

Re: S&W 29-3

That's about right for a 29-3. It's not old enough to be "collectable" like a no dash or -1 would be. Then again I don't believe it's new enough to have had the endurance package updates so personally I wouldn't be too interested, but that is only because my 44's see a lot of full power loads through them. Personally I'd value the gun a bit lower, more like $600, due to it not having the endurance package. Are the grips original? Does it include the original box? What barrel length? If it's something odd that will add to the value. If it's typical 4 or 6" then I'd still shoot for 600-650.

It says its 6". From the pics I would guess it has the original grips still. I don't know a lot about them obviously so what is the endurance package? Also, no he does not have the original box still. Thanks for the help.

Re: S&W 29-3

Back in the day some silhouette shooters were having issues with the 29's rattling loose because of the really heavy loads guys were putting through them. At some point they updated the lockwork to make it a bit stronger, I'm not sure what generation of 29 would incorporate those changes but I'd guess around a -5. The easiest way to tell is by the notches in the cylinder.

Here's one without the endurance package (look at the notches)-

And with (see how much longer the notches the are?)-

Re: S&W 29-3

$700 seems a bit high for a dash 3. Ive seen beautiful dash 2's go for $500. Or just get a Ruger Super Red Hawk, Have a Wolff spring kit istalled and a trigger job done and you will have S&W like trigger pull but a frame and cylinder/locking system that is about 10 times stronger and more durable.

I have owned two 29-2's and one 629-6. And the Ruger SRH is far better. Don't get me wrong its hard to try to like a non S&W DA revolver but as far as 44 mags go I LOVE the Ruger SRH. As for All other calibers, Im still a die hard S&W fan.
