Sidearms & Scatterguns microtech knives

Re: microtech knives

I tried a Troodon OTF automatic. Very sharp...very well made and very quick opening. Problem is a little lint or use in a dirty environment and it quits deploying. Very good gentlemen's knife and cool factor but not much of a working man's knife in my experience.

Re: microtech knives

I had 2 Benchmade Infidels - one NIB , one used . Neither was 100% reliable . I sold both and bought a Scarab . It has opened and closed 100% . No doubts ... Of course , given the choice , I would rather have a fixed-blade ...

Re: microtech knives

I have about a half-dozen Microtechs, all OTF. They are superb knives. There is one golden rule though. ONLY lube them using Rem Oil. Anything else will gunk them up and you'll have to sent it back to Microtech for repair.

Re: microtech knives

Ive had 2 go tits up on me after any harduse. They are great if you keep them on the dresser and only pull out to show your buddies. Definitely not a working knife

Re: microtech knives

I got a Socom Elite that I have had for about ten years, sharp as a razor out of the box, also very smooth and very strong action. I have never had an issue with my Microtech Auto.

Re: microtech knives

Mine are outstanding, i carry a scarab everyday and it performs well. The Ultratechs are by far the fastest and hold an edge well. They are scalpel sharp. Buy with confidence. Ive been a Microtech fan for years. The only thing Ive found better is a strider but they also start at 400.00.

Re: microtech knives

Had a Troodon, wicked sharp my only complaint was if lint/gunk built up in it it was hard to fire. Just get the tool/wrench to take it a part and keep it clean. Also lots of info on microholics.

Re: microtech knives

They are durable but yes you do tend to baby them, kinda nice though it makes you take the time to find the right tool. My fav is actually an Ultratech. The duel edge knives are a bit thin the tanto point is recomended. I have one in the bayonet point. It is twisted sharp. I bought one for a friend of mine gor Xmas, two days later he was at his in laws and his mother in law asked him if he he had a knife, he hesitated and then said no. He said its a lot more like handing someone a loaded gun than a pocket knife simply because of the sharpness. I agree.
I own Shun cooking knives that are not this sharp. Now, remember it is a front opener so they will never be as strong as other mechananisms of the same quality. They will kick the crap out of a lesser knife in any design though. There is no other front opener that even comes close.

Re: microtech knives

Oh, btw you'll wear your thumb raw playing with your first one.. I noticed your a top gear fan. If top gear did knives Jeremy would love it, Hammond would give it a good review and James would endorse a more practical design. Got it?

Re: microtech knives

The Ultratech is one of their best value knives. hollowgrind.com is a very reputable dealer and will give you outstanding service after the sale if you have a problem.

I use my Ultratech pretty hard and it is holding up well.
