Gunsmithing DBM for 700 LA?

Re: DBM for 700 LA 30/06 length?

Ive seen AI mags not want to feed 280AI even after the owner messed with the feed lips quite a bit. He couldn't get it to feed right. Contacted the guy who built the rifle and he couldn't get it to feed either.

I didn't mess with it because I don't like buying a brand new magazine just to bend it out of shape. Ive seen the AI mags work fine with 280, and Ive seen it not work so well.

Id pick a caliber that magazines were readily available for if I was planning on using magazines. Anytime I see a guy with "custom" mags that only work in his rifle, and no other mags will work in it, I think its not the best idea. But thats just my opinion. I want to be able to grab any mag, modified or not, and have it work.

Re: DBM for 700 LA?

How about some first hand information... The AICS 300WM mag will feed the 280AI like a champ.....

As for bottom metal, on my stiller I used a badger setup and its great cause the stock was inletted for it. There is a vendor here on the hide who has a LA DBM that will pretty much drop in on a LA stock. It looks like quality kit and was going to get one to put on my hunting 280AI since the one on my tactical 280AI works like a champ.

Mags, AICS 300WM magazines work great with some minor tweaking of the feed lips. You will need the HS Precision mag tool and some dummy rounds to make it work right though.

Re: DBM for 700 LA?

I run a Hooper for my 280AI. The thing runs flawlessly. In 2000 rounds I have had 2 feeding failures, one was due to improperly sized brass, and the other was due to wet, muddy conditions. I would highly recommend Mr. Hooper's product.
