Middle of nowhere
So I've always liked the Ruger Gunsite Scout but there were other things I needed more than a Scout type rifle. 2weeks ago I start looking into them a little more and found out that you can mount a scope in the traditional mounting position and the rifle comes with the rings to do this. Then I got the news that Ruger is no longer filling orders due to the company being behind 1,000,000 firearms. So I started looking for one and none of my 5 wholesellers had one I even called a few dealers in Missouri, not a single gunsite on hand. I posted a WTB thread on here and a member informed me that there was one for sale on gun broker. I checked it out and found one for $800 and ordered it. I will zero it at 100yrds with the irons sights before mounting a Bushnell Trophy 6x18 "the only scope I have on hand at the moment" I will zero the scope at the same and then switch go back to the irons to see if they keep the zero and do the same with the scope, using 168gr Federal Sierra Matchking bthp. Now with that said don't start yelling at me I am well aware that both are probably not going to keep zero but I will give it a try, the scope will be my primary on the rifle. Your thoughts? I'll get a range report in the next day or two, the rifle will be in today and my ammo in the next few days or so.

Mine was sub-MOA with FGMM 168 gr.

There is no way it will hold zero when you take the iron sights off.

XS makes a rail that allows you to mount a scope over the action and has a ghost ring sight on it. Never had a chance to use one, but it's your only shot at having irons and a scope.

Thank you for the input, I've heard of the XS rail and mos def going to look into it.

Re: Ruger M77 Gunsite Scout Rifle

I was in the hunt for one but seeing them used for $600 or so I was never quick enough to snag one up. Had my FIL look around there in TX for one with no luck either. Ran across the ad here for a Steyr Scout so having momma mail the money today. Would still like to shimmy out a Ruger though just going to have to wait I suppose. I figure a good bedding job, remove the flash hider, bed the scope mounting rail, and some other minors they would probably be a good stick.

Re: Ruger M77 Gunsite Scout Rifle

I have the XS rail on mine, and replaced the flash hider with a YHM QD, so I have this:
- ghost rings zeroed for no can and plinking ammo (147 grainers)
- dot sight in the scout position with the can for subsonics (what a hoot - the short barrel is great for subs)
- a Vortex 5-15 (on sale at Midway!) in the conventional location with the suppressor for "long" range dial-up - I'm thinking maybe 600-800 yards
- a cheap 3-9 in the conventional position without the can for hunting or more precise plinking.

We have a lot of fun with the rifle and it is versatile. I haven't shot it for groups much, but it doesn't seem to like hand loads and match bullets any more than my plinking loads, which are showing sub 2 MOA.

Was your GSR sub MOA with a scope or irons. If scoupe what kind, scout type or like a 3x9. </div></div>

The choice of sighting device has nothing to do with accuracy.
