Finally got to do a bit of shooting this evening for an hour or so with a 3-day old REPR...
Configuration:
Sotech SSP on the Sopmod B5 (which I'm kinda liking) for a grippier cheek weld - velcro'd and lashed.
Geissele SD-E trigger
Ergo Deluxe grip (which I'm also kinda liking)
BADass ambi selector, seemed appropriate since the Repr is somewhat ambi
AAC 51 tooth brake and N6
Atlas bipod
Surefire/Gear Sector
Trijicon TR24 1-4 with German #4 dot reticle until the Mark 6 1-6 CMR-W comes in
Took some Santa Barbara 147 grain, Southwest 175 grain, Blackhills 168 grain HP match, and FGMM 168 out with me. Zeroed the irons at 50 yards with 147, then zeroed the TR24 at 50 yards with the same ammo. Moved out to 100 yards and got about 3 inch group average with the 147. I was studiously lubing and turning the Gas Block selector every 5 rounds, basically, as instructed by the OM as a brief break-in for the selector knob. I've got a serious case of gamer's thumb from working that gas block knob. That sucker needs to be gnurled. So, that part was no fun, but the one time that I forgot to turn it back to Normal after removing the can it DID fail to fully extract the fired case - so the suppressed setting actually does reduce pressure. My A3 has been set on S since I got it, with and without the can, so I didn't know what to expect with the REPR. It really does need N for unsuppressed shooting, though - which pleases me, since that means it really is reducing the pressure it allows when set on S. Nice.
Back to shooting: Function was flawless other than my lapse in returning it to N setting without the can. Zero gas face. That is huge. The brake created just enough blast to remind me that I wasn't shooting a 5.56 off the bench, but when I went prone at 200 I was amazed at the dust and debris that baby kicked up. On went the can...
At 100, off the bench with a bipod and pinch bag (OK, but not rock solid) and a TR24 German #4 dot reticle set at 4x, the Black Hills printed about 2 inches, the Southwest printed about 1.5 inches and the FGMM turned in a solid .75 moa 8-shot group. Kindly leave out the two flyers that I pulled which turned it into a 1.25 moa group!
That was fired in two 5 shot strings which were separated by a couple of the other ammo types. When I went downrange and saw how well the FGMM did, I went back with the hotter barrel and tried another 5 rounds - boom, same place.
At 200 yards, group opened up to 1.75 inches if you leave out a flyer on that one - flyers are a common theme with my shooting. Get used to it.
In addition, my AAC 762SD N6 has a POI shift of 2.5 inches straight up. That pleased me, as well. I confess that I was in a hurry by that time, and forgot to remove and re-install a few times to verify that the POI shift was repeatable. I expect that it is, based on a couple of other AAC cans that I have (or had.) Will check that next time.. The one quick group with the can and 168 FGMM at 100 yards was .84 inches. I'll get a better feel for the can's affect on accuracy over the next few weeks.
The Sotech SSP on the stock definitely helped keep my sweaty cheekweld from slipping. That worked great - now I just need to rig something similar on the SPR that doesn't interfere with the charging handle.
More pics and info as I get to shoot more in the next few weeks...
