About 2 months ago, after waiting 10 months for a builder to build me an AR, I decided to get my money back (still working on that) and have someone else build me an AR. The new builder suggested that he would help me build my own so I decided to take on the task.
I have shot off the shelf AR’s and although most are really nice I really liked the custom one that my other friend had built. So this is what lead to the build you see here.
This is my first AR I have ever owned (already planning 4 other builds), and the first that I have ever built. I would say that I learned a lot along the way, and it was a great experience.
The cost of this AR was right in line with buying one of the shelf and modifying it, so in short I didn’t save much money, but I got exactly what I wanted. Now the nuts and bolts:
Mega Machine 3-H billet set (CH included)
WOA Lower Parts Kit
Magpul UBR
Geissele SSA-E Trigger
Mega Upper Parts Kit
WOA 223 16” Match Rifle Barrel (headspaced to Bolt)
WOA BCG
WOA Carbine Buffer
WOA Carbine Buffer Spring
WOA Mid Length gas tube
RRA Advanced Half Quad Aluminum, Mid Length
JP Stainless Adjustable Gas Block
Smith Vortex Flash Hider
Notes: I would probably buy the upper parts needed from Rainer Arms Next time.
The total time to get the rifle built was 8 weeks, but I had to let it sit for a week before I had a chance to shoot it. I finally got it out this afternoon with my Vortex PST 6-24x50 scope and got to shoot it. Offhand I grouped 4” at 100 yards (I couldn’t stop shaking today). I hope to get it back out on Sunday (not forget my sled) and get a good grouping on it. I will update post with target pictures (hopefully Sunday)
HAPPY EASTER!
