If I want to buy a used Savage 10, what is the max amount of shots that would have been put through it until you wouldn't want to purchase it anymore? It's hard to put it in words, but I think you understand what I'm saying.

Thanks a lot guys!

Re: Used Guns

I consider round counts on a rifle to be like miles on a car- The actual count shouldn't be as big of a factor as how it looks when you check it out. I'd rather buy a used rifle with 2000+ round count that was well taken care of, over a 600 round count rifle that was "rode hard and put away wet." Just my .02

Go over the rifle with a fine tooth comb, pay careful attention to the bore (that is if you're not planning on putting a new tube on it right away).

Re: Used Guns

Just a tip unless you really know the person (or the gun history) you are buying a used rifle from 95% of people are going to say " It was shot very little maybe 200-300 rounds tops" Because they know no one is going to buy a used gun if they say " Yeah I shot the S**T out of that gun." Now getting that out of the way I would not buy a savage that has more than 700 rounds personally. UNLESS you are going to put a new barrel, firing pin and trigger on it than the amount of rounds really would not matter as much as what the overall condition of the action and bolt is.

Re: Used Guns

Its more likely there is rust/pitting in the barrel than it being "shot out".

That said, even if there is a barrel issue you can replace it yourself with any number of quality prefit barrels, in the caliber of your choice, at home with minimal investment in tooling.
