Gunsmithing Adding Terry Cross adj cheek piece to McMillan A5

Re: Adding Terry Cross adj cheek piece to McMillan A5

McMillan will not install my hardware at this time.

Best they will do is a partial inlet for the clamp assembly. After reviewing the KMW hardware, they started offering a hardware install that is very similar in appearance to the KMW but is not.

If your A5 is a solid (non adjustable cheek piece), your only recourse is to have someone like Joe Ducos (StockDoc) do the conversion. He uses KMW hardware and the finished stocks I have seen look very good.

So just to clarify.... If anyone out there receives an adjustable stock direct from McMillan with a KMW like clamp installed, it IS NOT a part from KMW and I do not warranty the hardware or the install.

Compact45, you are welcome to contact me at the shop if you have any further questions. Thank you for considering my gear.

Best,
Terry

+1 for stockdoc.

Joe added KMW hardware to my A-5, and also transformed it into an A-3.

mine didn't have 2 separate screws for side to side adjustment, you just loosen the long posts themselves. They have an allen head at the bottom of the long shaft/post. Obviously you have to remove the whole cheek piece to get at it. So loosen the posts, reinstall the cheek piece, slide it side to side to get it where you want it, then carefully remove the cheek piece and then tighten the posts without moving them.

Got my stock back today from stockDoc and I'm very pleased. Better alignment for my NPA. Thanks Joe!!!

Thanks to Terry Cross for creating such fine piece of hardware, it's my second.

Just thought I'd chime in here. Joe installed KMW hardware into a laminated wood stock that previously had been used with iron sights. Installing a scope on the rifle required a rise of a little over 1.25 inches. Joe's installation of the cheekpiece was perfect and function was as required.

Has anyone been able to contact Mr. Cross lately? I have tried for several weeks with no luck; phone, voicemail, email, and PM. Hopefully everything is OK and he is just busy.

I was just going to post the same thing as I have a couple of A5's to send to him for hardware.

Do you guys just send your stocks or are you contacting him first. Trying to figure out if he wants them at a certain time or not

I spoke to him last week. I think he was at a competition and he told me he had quite a few stocks in the shop that they were trying to catch up on in the next couple weeks. Mine shipped two days ago (I'd sent it roughly a month ago.)

Re: Adding Terry Cross adj cheek piece to McMillan A5

Looks like I'll need this done to my A5 if I can't get comfy with a stock pack and low rings. Can anyone give me an idea of how much it'll cost?

Re: Adding Terry Cross adj cheek piece to McMillan A5

Guys, was able to talk with Terry over the weekend at a match. He assured me the hardware supply issues are solved and hardware will be en route to me shortly. Thanks for your support and patience!
