Kestrel - Crosswind Function

Re: Kestrel - Crosswind Function

Are you asking about the wind function meter function? If so, it works. One use I have for it is similar to the LRF. I just take it out and walk around with it. Guess the wind speed then check. I do the same with LRF on range. Makes a better field shooter. I often leave both at home when hunting. But great training tools.

Re: Kestrel - Crosswind Function

Pointing the Kestrel at the intended target, setting the azimuth, going to the wind speed function and then getting the relative crosswind speed.

Case in point:
Azimuth to target = 180 degrees magnetic (point to and set that as ref heading)
Wind dir/spd = 107 degrees magnetic @ 17 mph.
Read cross wind function = X mph

Re: Kestrel - Crosswind Function

I usually stop for a minute half way to the target and get my readings. I find that it works for me. I dont really like taking the measurements at the target or at my shooting position. If I am hunting Ill take them at my shooting position. Again, thats just me. I will still leave it on a tripod right by me to compare my data all the time.
