I am looking for an optic for my AR-15. I have an eotech, i've had the aimpoint, and, while they are excellent optics, they both illuminate red, and have no magnification and are strictly close quarters optics.

(Red is a problem because i am color blind and red is incredibly difficult for me to pick up quickly in daylight.)

What i am looking for is an adjustable optic 1-?? power scope with amber, yellow, or green illumination or, no illumination at all.

also, i would like to keep it under $300-400.

Are yany of yous guys aware of such a thing? I saw that nikon has a scope that more or less fits the bill, but, i am cautious...

Re: AR optics

If you can spend up to 500, I would look at the vortex PST 1-4. There is illumination, but the reticle is great for being picked up quickly, even when black.

*Edit: not my pic, stole it off of google.

Glass is great, and Vortex is an awesome company to deal with.

Re: AR optics

Vortex is going to be your best ticket into that market - But it's red.

Strikefire has a Green reticle - but 1x, so u would want a mag. 3x add on

Triji will give you green rets....but now you blew your budget

probably the best quality and value that you'll get within about your budget is a weaver super slam dangerous game 1-5x24. i think swfa has them at $439.95 right now. i think i've seen them even lower before. also, you may be color-blind,but you'll have to be totally blind to not see the heavy-dual-x.

look at the burris mtac 1-4x24 too, should be just below $400.

I believe it will be 800+ with caps and shipping and what not.

Re: AR optics

Don't know what Nikon you're referring to, but they make a quality product, and if I recall have a good life time warranty.

The strikefire used to come with a 2X magnifier, just make sure its the one with the green option.

A trijicon 1-4 in green or amber would probably be the ticket.

Almost every manufacturer has a 1-4ish non-illuminated but the reticles tend to be basic duplex types which aren't as fast in cqb, course they're also usually 1-200 less than their "tactical" models.

Re: AR optics

I also have the basic red-green color vision impairment and find the acog pretty much unusable/ illuminated reticles marginal

the one I am going to try is the new bush elite 1-6, it is the first low power optic with AO and the reticle has black cross hairs - there was no way I was going to pay the 1300 initial price but I had sent in a bushnell scope for service and it came back with a discount offer so the 1-6 will be around 950 shipped and still has the 1 year money back deal - the sick thing is I do not think it took more than about 800 to build the AR it is going on
