Federal Gold Medal Match 7.62x51 175SMK

Re: Federal Gold Medal Match 7.62x51 175SMK

How does this compare to the 308 Win FGMM ammo? I'm assuming the ballistics would be the same...am I wrong?

I'm curious about this as well. I know .308 and 7.62 is loaded to different chamber pressures but I don't know the performance difference. Can anyone chime in with experience with both?

Some say they are different. They both carry the same label from Federal, however, at 2600fps. It runs 2750fps out of the 26" gun I shoot with it.

Other than unpolished brass, primer crimps and different headstamps, there's little difference. I don't find it any less accurate than the .308 stuff.

Recently, the 168 .308 has been very inexpensive about $19/box at gunshows. Then the 7.62x51 showed up at the same price and varies in availability. Now I'm starting to see the .308 175 priced at the same level but very low availability.

The smallest group I've shot with high production factory ammo has been with the 7.62x51 FGMM. It's good stuff.

Here's a recent group with it. Typically though it's right around 3/4 MOA at 100 yards.

FGMM is good stuff and you should try Southwest Ammo's 175gr .308 stuff too. I'm getting similar if not better results with SW's stuff loaded in FC brass.

I tried 7.62 FGMM 175 grain this past weekend for the first time and my MWS loved the stuff...I shot a four round group, pulled the third shot but still managed a 3 shot 5/8" spread, including the flyer 13/16".

On an Atlas bipod, no bag in the rear. I am not a good shot, I can assure you, I can tell you I was real pleased. I have some pictures that I will upload when my son gets done with final exams....he is my IT person.

From Anoka @ Federal via email:

Ballistics are the same, however, the cases are different. The GM308M2 is built for the commercial customer and is available through commercial stores and websites on a regular basis. The GM762M2 is built to government contract specs and is only available when there are over runs for that load and then are made available to the general public through retailers. The brass case is the main difference the 762 is dull looking while the 308 version is shiny brass.
