Evidently, my wife is not happy I took over the spare bedroom to do my reloading. I have no basement.

How bad of an idea would it be (and is it ok) to move my reloading bench and stuff to a climate controlled self storage unit? Could I even reload in a storage unit?

Please dont be too harsh. It was just an idea.

Re: Dumb Question?

That would sure make a dent in the cost savings from reloading (unless you reload a TON.)

What's an AC storage unit go for these days, $120/month.

There is also the legal question of powder storage. That I don't know the answer to. Maybe call and get a copy of the rules and regs of a local storage company?

I assume city and state laws would be the same as they are for you home, but maybe not.

Hell, if my wife wants it out of the spare room, she can pay for it! </div></div>Haha...right on.

Re: Dumb Question?

If you are talking about an everyday, run of the mill, storage unit, it will most likely never fly.

1. Most units do not have access to power, so if you are running electric anything, not going to happen. I have seen people trying to run extension cords from a hallway, but that gets shutdown as soon as management finds out.

2. Most facilities do not have a light inside of the unit, the lighting comes from the hallways. Once again without power in the unit, you would have to leave the door open, so everyone coming by will know your buisness.

3. Most facilities have strict policies against storage of any kind of Haz Mat (powder, primers). If they catch you, fines, charges, you get thrown out.

4. Most facilities have strict policies against carrying out any kind of activity / work in a unit, they are to be used strictly for storage.

Working Public Safety, we deal with them on a regular basis now thanks to all of the idiots who are setting up meth labs, indoor grows, and all other kinds of illegal stuff in them.

Because of this more and more facilities are always in your buisness and run a very tight ship, so you can't do much without someone checking up on you.

There are certain facilities that will rent spaces for "limited" commercial use and occupancy, but they will usually run 2-3 times the cost of a normal unit.

Sorry, but it sounds like that you need to find a friend who you can reload with, or you need to drop some type of an out building in the backyard.

Best of Luck,
M Richardson

Re: Dumb Question?

This is an easy 2 part fix.

Part 1. Start partying a lot more and hanging out at bars and strip clubs. Spend all your extra money on strippers and beer/drinks and lap dances.

Part 2. After seeing your new found hobbies, your wife will either leave you or will not want you to leave the house and reloading in the spare bed room will not be problem any more. If it still is a problem tell her you need a nice storage unit with a bed so you can entertain friends after the clubs close. That should either cure your problem or you'll be single, either case you'll be able to continue to reload in side your guest bedroom

Re: Dumb Question?

There may be room to compromise. One of my children’s rooms has a piece of furniture (I think it’s called a wardrobe) that has large drawers on bottom and from ~ 32” up to the top is a large open area that we use to hold a TV. It’s really sturdy (holds a heavy TV well) and with a little additional reinforcement, could be used for reloading. Add some nice looking locks and you’ll have a place to reload and when you’re done for the day, everything is closed up and the wife has a nice looking piece of furniture. Whatever route you go, make sure you’re selling it as ‘you’re doing something nice for the wife”.

LongArm @ She said if I didnt stop reloading in the spare bedroom she was going to divorce me. Problem solved!

MtnCreek @ I have a clothes dresser with <span style="text-decoration: line-through">all</span> most of my reloading stuff inside. I do have mounted the powder dispenser and 2 presses. I have them covered up, but she also commented on the "machine smell"? Not sure what she is referring to.

Keep up the comments, you are making my day!

Re: Dumb Question?

Tell she already has two rooms, the kitchen and laundry room, if you give her the spare bedroom tell mowing the lawn is now her chore because you lost your Man Card.

Re: Dumb Question?

Not sure what they might be called where you live. But buy a tough shed. They are already built and you can have it delivered. Mine was 8 by 12. Then run a power cord from house to shed.

I see them at Lowes and Home Depot.

Re: Dumb Question?

This is a good "starting point" Expand your "bad behavior", so she gains some "Perspective" Everything's based on perception, and history. They always seem to want to "tighten the noose". You have to make a "drastic" stand, to reset the "meter". Unless she's an absolute 10, and rich, and the sex is fantastic, set her on her heals. People, men and women, get used to a norm, then try to "get more". Sometimes "more", is a prison, for their partner. Sit back, and look at your situation. Good or bad? Do you think you might be selfish.I mean: She's dealing with 3 screaming kids, and you just want some peace, so you leave her to it, and go reload? If not, then "reset your parameters"!!!<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: LongArm</div><div class="ubbcode-body">This is an easy 2 part fix.
