Hey guys, I've built quite a beautiful rifle. I love the thing but the furthest I'm able to shoot it is 300 yds. I'm in the Virginia Beach area and was wondering if any of you guys know a place i can stretch this thing out a bit. thanks.

Don't know if your LE or military, but if you are either, you may try poking around the community about using a range...ahem, just south of Va. Beach, off Hwy 17. It's not an advertised military facility, but its there, out in the agg fields, just eastof the Dismal Swamp and east of the Highway, and just noth of the state border...

The road sign says "Coast Guard Axillary Facility" or something like that (it's been a few years, but just recently in a passing conversation I was told it was still there).

Re: Va Beach sucks for long distance shooting

So the Coast guard aux field is just a "show up n shoot" type of place? Im not trying to get ran off or locked up by some crazy coast guard mp lol.

Re: Va Beach sucks for long distance shooting

No, it's not a show up and shoot place. Hence my comment about checking with those in the lcoal shooting community and also being LE/military. They MIGHT get you an invite to use the range if you are one or the other and have the right connections.

If you fit neither, than you probably have a long drive ahead of you (Quantico seems to be the closest 1000yd range to you).

Re: Va Beach sucks for long distance shooting

I would not try to just show up to the North West River Anex.
(USCG CAMSLANT is also located there...)
It is not open to the public and is also not open to all .mil types either.
(A little bit of online research will quickly tell you why you don't want to just "drop in".)

There are a few groups in the area that have access to 1K + ranges, just need to make friends first...

Re: Va Beach sucks for long distance shooting

At least you have access to a 300 yard range. The closest public 300 yard range we have here in Southern Maryland is almost 3 hours away. Good luck with the "making friends" to get access. It always helps to know someone with a shit ton of land.

They hold a monthly HP match at Academi and the second Saturday of June, a 1000 yard, any sight, any gun match there as well. You need to contact NCRR to get signed up for the access list. Everyone, everyone(did I say everyone) needs to be on the list to enter since it's a secure facility, even active duty mil or even a federal agent(unless possessing a warrant)needs to be on the list. Other than Quantico or Camp Butner, that's it.

If wanting to do the 1k match, they need at least 15 people signed up to hold it since they need the numbers to pay for range rental.

Re: Va Beach sucks for long distance shooting

The old Blackwater now Xe is a good option and it is a short drive to Raleigh next time we run the match at Woodys. A little further coming up in late June is Kyles Sniper GOlf in Maxton NC another good venue

Re: Va Beach sucks for long distance shooting

I'm a va beach guy. I practice at the said 300 yard course but I shoot F-class at Butner and Quantico.

That's the first I have heard of the Chesapeake Gun club.

Take it to a secluded place on the beach, you should be able to shoot as far into the ocean as you want.
