Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this.
I just bought my first batch of new .223 lapua brass and once home began to measure it. To my surprise, the case length variation was huge! anywhere from 1.757 long to 1.744 short.
Now my question is, should i trim my longest down to meet the shortest?
Is 1.744 too short? The shortest cases I use now are 1.748.
I thought this stuff was supposed to be the s--t?
Any help/advise would be appreciated.

Re: Lapua Brass question

you think a ~.010 difference is allot ? you can trim them to be the shortest. If your not turning your case necks i would sort them by cocentricity, then trim from there. ( trying to find the best 20-30 out of the group)

Re: Lapua Brass question

As long as they dont interfear with your chamber length just shoot them. I usually will trim (on most cases that I am only NK sizing) after the 2nd fireing and leave them from there. I dont like to trim unfired cases as long as they fit the chamber.

Re: Lapua Brass question

1.750" is the trim to length prescribed in most manuals.

1.760" is the nominal case length. Most cases will grow with firing and resizing, etc.

The 1.750 is possibly less than your chamber would require as factory chambers vary and you may not need to trim them until they hit 1.770" or even more!

Re: Lapua Brass question

Thanks for the input Guy's
I trimmed these so the average case length is 1.749 and I loaded these as usual with 23.5 gr. of V V N133 and a 52.0 gr. Sierra HPBT
I'm going to go shoot these and see what comes of it.
