So I just bought a used 10x off the exchange and when I get the scope it doesn't say SWFA or SS or Super Sniper on it anywhere . It has a tasco manual is this something I should be worried about . The ad said "swfa" "ss" as far as what type of scope it was can someone explain and should I be concerned ?

Re: swfa 10x question

I bought mine directly from SWFA a few years ago. It does not have any markings on either it. I would take it out and test it. If everything checks out, enjoy.

Re: swfa 10x question

The Tasco builds were fine, I had the side focus model of that era and it served me well for years. Im not sure what warranty is on it from SWFA but I think they still warranty them.

I fairly sure SWFA is and was the only source you could buy an SS from.

If it is in good shape dont worry be happy, the seller wasnt lying.

Re: swfa 10x question

I have several SS scopes that I bought directly from SWFA. If I recall, they did have Tasco instructions in the box. The box, however did have the SS logo, etc.

I have a 10x that is mounted. But I looked at a 20x that is unmounted - on the bottom of the scope there is small black lettering that is hard to read.

On the bottom of the scope it reads:

20X 42
Waterproof
SS20X42
AT
Japan

I imagine the SS stands for Super Sniper. You can also call SWFA, I am sure they would answer any questions you have. It sounds like you have a Super Sniper.

Also try to compare your scope to a photo of a SS scope. They are fairly distinctive scopes. I doubt if anyone is counter-fitting the SS.

Hope this helps.

Re: swfa 10x question

I am the seller. I purchased the scope directly from SWFA on 10/28/10. I'm happy to fax you a copy of the invoice. Just PM me a fax number.

I've also offered to refund your money if you want to send the scope back to me.

You have a legit SWFA SS 10x42. Not a copy or some old Tasco. The SS I sold you is the one I used in my recent write up: http://valueshooter.com/?p=576

Just let me know if you still have questions or aren't happy. I'll do what it takes to make this right if you feel like you've somehow been taken advantage of.

Re: swfa 10x question

It's legit.

The Classic line has never been marked with any branding. Up until very recently they shipped with the old tasco paper work/instructions which did not mean anything other than we never paid to have new instructions made.

Technically there is only one scope that was originally made by tasco as a Super Sniper. These were never sold to civilians or tasco dealers so they were never branded nor where the boxes. We continued with the same packaging and paperwork when we took over the line.

Keep in mind that tasco is and was just a name, they did not technically make anything and had the capability to have any level of quality out sourced. In this case they took the mil specifications provided in the contract solicitation and simply handed them to one of the premier factories in Japan which built the scope to the contract specs. So the fact that yours has tasco paper in the box and no markings has no bearing on its quality.

We have never seen a counterfeit version, we have seen totally different scopes being marketed as Super Sniper or SS but they are easily discernible as they look nothing like our scopes.

The mil/mil versions that are shipping this month will have SWFA-SS branding FYI.
