Re: my first precision rifle

Congrats Rob!!! Nice looking setup for a starter rifle! I went with a 5R Mil Spec for my first and Sold the HS Stock and replaced with a B&C M40 Style Stock. You're pretty well set for a while on the current Configuration. I too had a Millet TRS-1 Before Moving On the a Vortex Viper PST FFP. The only thing I would suggest before going to the Range is to Adujust the Trigger Pull on your rifle. The Stock Trigger and Setting on the New Remys Suck!!! Ain't gonna lie, I hated it on my Gun!

Re: my first precision rifle

Looks like a great rifle. I am interested to hear your range report after you take it out.

Beware if you keep reading this forum, you will have a couple additional rifles in the near future.

Re: my first precision rifle

thanks! i know the next upgrade will be a stock, i want a longer lop and with the hogue that comes with the aac there's barrel contact when it's on the bipod...im sort of leaning towards a b&c a5(fits my budget, pretty good reviews, looks bitchin)but i want to lay behind some other stocked rifles if i can to see if i can figure out what best for me...

i'll look into adjusting it...i know it's an xmark pro so i should be able to lighten it up with the tools i have, i'll do some reading tonight, thanks for the suggestion!

rmw...seriously...i already want to doll mine up with fluting on the bolt, etc...but for now that money will go towards ammo and reloading supplies

Re: my first precision rifle

had a great time at the range today, was my first time ever shooting bolt guns, has been all AR/shotgun/handgun til now...im pretty much addicted to bolts now...put 100 down the pipe, once it was sighted in i qualified for the 300yard range with my first group (1.25 moa @ 100yards) my average at the 100 yard range was probably about 2-3 moa off the bipod with some frequent fliers which im not worried about, i know the stock hogue stock with a bipod touches the barrel and causes that. my best at 100 was 1moa for 3 but that only happened once, this was all with cheapo american eagle 150gr...after 60 rounds on the 100 yard range (stayed so long cuz we had family with us)i moved up to the 300 yard range and broke into the federal match with the 168gr sierras...did one group of 20 @ 200 and one @ 300...with the 300 i wasnt shooting for accuracy i was shooting to try to keep a tight group, no spotter and i couldnt see my holes in the target to adj my elevation so i didnt mess with it.

Re: my first precision rifle

Wooh 100 Rounds already! lol, that's a Great Start! But man might want to think about investing in some Easier to see Targets or Shoot'n See ones. With the Current scope you have it's already pretty hard to See Tiny Holed Group at a 100 yrds lay along 200-300 Yrds. I'd get some easier to see Targets and a semi cheap spoting scope if you plan on shooting that far all the time. And yes, ofcourse, tune the Trigger. All I did on my is adjust the Front Center Screw (There's 2 in the front, I'm talking about the Lower Center One "Pull Weight Screw") with a Alen Rench. Counter Clock Wise, Keep in mind, every Half Turn (I think) = 1 lb pull weight off. I did 2 Whole Turns on mine and now the Trigger is Really Sweet! Ofcourse ALWAYS SAFETY TEST IT AFTER PUTTING YET BACK INTO THE STOCK! Rack the Bolt Hard couple of times, turn on and off the Safety, with the rifle in Fire Position safety off Bump the rifle Hard on it's stock against the carpet to see if it shoots on it's own. If all these tests out good and you like to trigger pull then you're All Set!!! Good Luck Bro! Better Ammo = Better Accuracy and Groups!!! Rock On!!!

Re: my first precision rifle

thanks for all the feedback guys! im definitely planning on picking up some better targets...as for a spotting scope im not sure if i should get that or my reloading stuff. would something like this be good, or should i save up for a better one? http://www.midwayusa.com/product/766437/...r-armored-black
which kinda brings me to which direction i should go with training because i kinda see 2 options and that would make the decision

1. stick with 100 yards, work on bringing my groups in tighter and more consistant, get reloading equip and start doing that
2. keep shooting longer distances and get a spotting scope so i can see my hits.

personally im leaning towards option 1 because tighter groups close i imagine would translate downrange, plus bein able to make ammo for less means more practice. however i have zero experience with distance shooting so if anyone has any input to steer me in the right direction let me know...

Re: my first precision rifle

i just saw midway has the hornady lnl kit for $259 w/ the first 500 bullets free...cheaper than the rcbs, from what i've read a good reputation, and 500 free bullets...thoughts?

jwp- yea thats the hogue overmolded, very comfy although it'll be up for sale very soon

dawson- sometime you gotta go with whats locally available and affordable...my big thing was i know i want SOLID rings, but they're expensive, however i do not know what height rings fit me best so i got decent rings at a good price in the mid height as a baseline...a ring upgrade is def in the future but will happen after i get a new stock and my reloading gear

Re: my first precision rifle

there's so many trigger options i dont even know where to start! lol, luckily i've got the x mark pro from remmy so i can at least adjust it down to get me by for awhile...there's so much stuff i want/need...im just gonna prioritize in order of what gets me behind the rifle the most for the least money (i.e. reloading equip to bring ammo costs way down, etc) because nothing beats trigger time and a log book
