No... because you can't use a brake or a can. Nobody I know of is willing (yet) to get behind an un-braked .338LM for a 20+ shot string, even with the generous weight limit of F/Open.

I shot with a guy that had the guts (unbraked .338 LM) last year in Lodi. First two or three shots were great and then quickly went downhill after that.
He showed me the serious bruising on his shoulder and I felt for the guy!

Yea, the no brakes think keeps the heavy artillery off the line. Then there would be the cost.
Twenty shots + sighters per match, 60 shots for record in a day + sighters. That would bruise your shoulder and your bank account.

Here in the US, the caliber limit is .35 under NRA rules, though there may be local range limitations (i.e. my local range limits you to .30 cal and under).

tell us how that works out for you. I don't think your barrel will hold up to well to that punishment.
I have heard of shooters using the short action magnums, in particular the Remington short action ultra magnums, for thousand yard shooting in matches. But the long action RUM really is an "ultra magnum". Lots of punishment on the shooter and the rifle for shooting long strings of shots.

That's so funny. I was working on a post which begins like this:
"If I were to start in F-Open, I would look at something in 6.5 or more likely 7mm. The goal is to punch the paper, not take down a moose at 1000 yards."

I don't know what kind of hunting you are talking about here, but I can tell you that I would never use my little .308 F-T/R match rifle for hunting. Even though it weights less that 18 pounds, it feelslike a crew-served weapon and it's all I can do to pull it out of my SUV and drag it to the line.

At some point in the next year I'm going to do just this so I can say I did it. Butner has a .30 cal limit so I'd have to find somewhere else.

It's a drive from Winterville, but you can shoot them at Oak Ridge. If I recall correctly the only thing not allowed are 50BMGs. (though some of the big CheyTac offerings might cross the same safety thresholds that the 50 does)
