Looking for a midrange hunting optic and I think this may be a good fit for a 450 Bushmsaster deer rifle. Pretty good deal it seems for $200

I have a Vortex Viper 6.5 x 20 on a custom 308 and like it a lot.

Anybody on here have anything good to say about them?

Thanks,

I have one on my 17 hmr and love it. My buddy has 2 one on a 223 and the other on a 22-250. They are great scopes for the price. The glass is very clear and they track very well.

I actually just sold the one i was using on my coyote calling AR. They are a pretty good bargain, I have no complaints about the one I had. Took a coyote last year at 400 yards with it, so for the ranges you are planning on taking it you will be fine.

I really enjoy mine on my AR. Glass quality is solid, adjustments work well, and its a great size. My one big gripe is the BDC reticle is a bit thick for shooting at small targets. I believe its 1 MOA thick. Otherwise, Its nice and quick on 2x and 7x is plenty forgiving. For a short to mid range hunting rifle it'll fit the bill perfectly.

Re: Thoughts on Vortex Viper 2x7

It is a good scope that is worth about the price paid I would say. I have one on a savage 10 PC in .308. Have used it to take a couple of deer. The scope is made in the Philippines, which I think is the same source for the Nikon Prostaff line. I would describe it as a solid scope. Not a cheapo, but you can definitely get more if you pay more. I appreciate that it has decent eye relief.

I find 7x to be somewhat inadequate when trying to shoot really small groups at 100 yds with a heavy barrel rifle. on the other hand, leaving this scope at 6x is just about ideal for most of the deer hunting i do.
