Night vision or night vision scope

Re: Night vision or night vision scope

How far are you wanting to shoot? Where in NM are you located? What is your budget? If nothing else get a powerful red light and a clear scope, low power.

Re: Night vision or night vision scope

I live in Albuquerque, where you can shoot as far as the eye can see. I also hunt in TX. I have a small budget, but can trade for something. I can go up to around $2k or so

Re: Night vision or night vision scope

I use a PVS-14 behind an Eotech with NV capability. A new PVS-14 is over your budget but maybe you could find a used one. Of course, that could be problematic because you don't know how many hours the previous owner put on the NV rig. Newer model PVS-14s have some improved features over the earlier models so maybe you could find an older version still NIB at a reduced price. I haven't tried many NV rigs but the PVS-14 beats the heck out of the others I've played with.

I'd do what Chull suggested - give TNVC a call.

Just FYI - If you did go the route of a PVS-14 behind a dot device, the problem then becomes how to mount them both. LaRue sells a mount that will hold both and yet still fit on a standard upper rail without the need to remove the rear BUIS. But of course, it costs an arm and a leg.

Re: Night vision or night vision scope

What are you using?

I know a few guys who dial day optic on their 308 bolt guns down to 6x and go.

A few guys use 6.8SPC w/ IR laser + PVS 14 (pricy).

Only reason I ask about caliber is if you are using weapon mounted NV, you can potentially damage the film. Many of the non-shock isolated units are only rated for 223.

When you shell out your own $$ for these things you tend to want to be more careful

Re: Night vision or night vision scope

I have one of these but am unsure of how much caliber it could survive. ITAR won't allow for better here....

Would a 260Rem 140gr kill it? 308- 175smk's?

I can get hits on steel out to 300 yards with the 22lr with this set up no worries so would be fine for standard ranges on hogs if it can withstand the recoil. Very easy to attach to a standard 30mm scope with a 12" rail and rings/spacers. 2k is the limiting part on weapon mount NV.

Re: Night vision or night vision scope

get a cheap NVG and use a laser. problem solved.

with a PEQ15 and a PVS-14 I can't see shit past 100 yards. (mounted on helmet)

same goes for PVS-7
