Have a couple questions regarding a Colt 1911 Gold Cup National Match series 70.
The symbol on the slide, a Welch lion with a W. What is this symbol for?

There is a Briley tag under the barrel. I assume it means there was a Briley barrel and bushing kit installed?

Here are some more pics of the pistol. It has barely been shot. My friend had a friend who passed away and he was given this pistol from family members.
Just looking for some information as I am not versed in the Colt 1911 arena.
In my opinion, the pistol is beautiful except the stupid Aimpoint and mount. Now there are holes drilled in the frame...

Any information on the mount? Who might have installed it?

Thanks for all information

Re: Help with Colt 1911

The bushing is a Briley Spherical bushing...

It was probably a drop in kit unless the barrel looks like a match fitted barrel. If its the Colt factory barrel then the bushing was probably a drop in.

Weigand was an awesome gunsmith but health reasons caused him to go into early retirement.

No idea what the lion represents.

Re: Help with Colt 1911

I knew it had a Briley barrel and spherecal bushing, whether its their drop in kit or not I have no idea.
The gun is beautiful, other than the mount and Aimpoint.
The trigger feels great in it, light and crisp, I'm sure it been worked. If I had the pistol I would remove the mount and install the irons, but it's not mine and the guy who has it does not know much about guns at all.
