Here is the deal: I have owned a TRG 22 for several years and ever since I shot the first round throught the rifle it has been amazingly accurate and has felt like my third arm. I have recently (5 months ago) bought an AIAW 2.0, and have been tring to get comfortable with it but its just not happening. It is equally as accurate as the TRG but Im just not consistant with it. I have adjusted the length of pull and the cheek peice several times and it has gotten better but still not 100%. My shooting partner has an AX and I am very consistant with it and it feels much more comfortable for me than the AW (even though its a little long). So I am tring to decide if I should sell the AW and buy an AX or try the Viper skins or just give up and shoot the TRG full time.

Has anyone else gone though this before and if so how did it turn out? I am open to any ideas that may fix this for me. I do love the AW/AX action and wish I could get it to feel like the TRG, but...

Thank you in advance for any thought on this subject.

Re: for owners of both: AW vs TRG question

I liked the AW, but love my AX's. I've heard very good things about the Viperskin's ergos, so if you're happy with the AW in general then it's worth giving the Viper's a try before sending it down the road. Unless you're looking for an excuse to get the AX, then in that case I fully support that decision too!

Ya a couple of hundred bucks for Vipers vs taking a loss selling the AW then piling more money on to pick up the AX.......

I'd go the Viper route first.

but I do like the AW just fine. However the trigger shoe is much better on the AX too. I should try the viper skins for the $200 it would be a sweet fix!

Jason how did that 24" barrel shoot for ya?

Re: for owners of both: AW vs TRG question

If you shoot the TRG well why should you have to work to shoot something else well? Enlighten me on the things the AX does that the TRG doesn't. Ok it has a folding stock, after that?

Honestly nothing that matters to me I just have a BAD case of gun ADD. However the TRG isnt going anywhere. Im just agervated that I cant shoot the AW as well, HAHA.

If memory serves, the AX incorporates the AI target trigger which again if memory serves is a different beast from the AIAW trigger.

As for skins the Viperskin and again....testing my memory AI is coming out with their own versions.

I own ai aw in .308 , I do not own a TRG. However I thought I needed the viperskins to be happy so I bought some. After shooting with the viperskins on I could not get comfort with the grip. I put old stock back on and loved it. Point is we are all diff. I also think the ai aw will still be shooting with no problems for my great, great, grand-kids.

    Michael,
Thank you for the pics. The truth to be know I would much rather support an American company than a UK company. That sounds funny coming from a guy shooting an AW and a TRG, but its true. I wish someone in this country would step up to the plate and make a rifle as nice as the AW or TRG (not shitting on any of the very fine companys in the good ole USA). I will be getting me some of your skins soon I think.

The AI doesn't even have that! A guy can get a TRG with a folder (if you want to drop the extra money). I had a TRG 42 that was crazy accurate, but being a lefty I sold it. Hands down the most accurate factory gun I've ever owned. Still miss the trigger. I'm with Northern50, an AI won't do anything a TRG won't. It comes down to personal preference; if you like the Sako's, stick with them.

Re: for owners of both: AW vs TRG question

I completely understand that I should stick with the TRG if it fits me better. However I cant think of hearing about someone saying the AW or AICS for that matter just dosent fit them. It seems like everyone likes them, so I was wandering is it is just me.

Re: for owners of both: AW vs TRG question

Everyone is different. The first time I tried the AI chassis,I was hooked and have them on most all of my high end guns. They just seem to fit me very well. And I do so love my AI 308. Doesn't seem to matter what else I try, just does not match up to the AI. That gun shoots incredibly. I don't have anything else to match it except for my 6br custom. You won't find anything better than the AI's but if they don't fit you well, continue to use your TRG. I understand they are seriously good rifles. I don't own one but have several Sako rifles and they are all very well built.

Re: for owners of both: AW vs TRG question

I had my TRG22 and an FN SPR A3G at the same time. Both rifles were equally accurate, but, like you, I found that it was just easier for me to shoot the TRG well. Over time, I went to the range with both rifles, and almost everyone who shot them both side by side thought the same thing.

The SPR A3G was plenty accurate, but I had to work at "driving" it harder than the TRG22 to get it to shoot well.

I no longer own the SPR A3G, but still have the TRG22. I'm glad I kept the TRG, and although the A3G was a decent rifle, I don't really regret getting rid of it.

I think some rifles just fit peoples morphology better than others. I'm sure that the AI rifles fit some people better than the TRG. That is the beauty of having all sorts of rifles available for us to choose from.

Re: for owners of both: AW vs TRG question

I have both and agree that the TRG has ergonomics. I also like the TRG trigger better. On the other hand I like the AW's action and mags better. Hard to explain why I like the action better, but to me it just feels much stronger and beefier. If I had to choose one I would lean towards TRG at this point.
