Ok I am starting to look for a new scope for a MK12 type build.

Here is what I am looking for:

-less then 12x with a minimum as low as possible
-MIL Turrets (Exposed or capped)
-MIL Illuminated Reticle
-Good light gathering
-FFP would be nice but not a must
-Under or about $1000.00

The only thing I have found that I like so far is the Viper PST 2.5-10 44 EBR

http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/vort...reticle/reticle

What else should I be looking at ?

Thanks

Re: Recomend a Mk12 SPR Scope

I have a Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12 on my 18" SPR. No problems that I can come up with. The scope performs great, glass is comparible to anything else in the $1,000 or less price range. I havent compared it with a PST but research shows they seem to be neck and neck with the Bushnell leading in glass quality and the Vortex PST leading in customer service. Between the two, It would be a tough decision.

Re: Recomend a Mk12 SPR Scope

I too have the Bushnell 3-12x on my "SPR". I got it when they were being closed out. I'd buy it again, even at full price. There's one for sale right now in the px, though it may have sold yesterday.

Re: Recomend a Mk12 SPR Scope

My 'SPR' 'RECCE' whatever rifle has a leupold patrol 3-9 on it. It is easy to get behind, clear, only gripe is that the reticule is a bit thick and the illumination is center dot only.

I had a super sniper 3-9 as well. Good scope if you can give up on illumination I would get one of those.

The sightron 3.5-10 mil mil is the next one I want to try. The sightron S3 all have great glass and knobs.

For under a grand you could find a leupold m2 or m3 type scope pretty easy. Not mil mil but still a very capable on a 223 carbine.

Re: Recomend a Mk12 SPR Scope

I currently have a Weaver 3-10x mil/mil on my SPR. Works great and adjustments are dead on.

I have a SWFA 1-6 FFP on order from the package buy, not sure if I will like the lesser power for the distance over the better CQB capability. You just never know how far out those pesky pieces of cardboard will be.

Re: Recomend a Mk12 SPR Scope

I have the PST 2.5-10x44. It's a good scope with good glass. I like what it offers, and it's a good price at $599. The illumination is nice too.
The SWFA SS 3-9x42 is a highly regarded scope as well, and something to look into.

I had the Weaver 1" 3-10x40 mil/mil for a short time, and it was a very nice scope for what it was. It's definitely not on par with the SWFA or Viper PST though.

I have never tried the Bushy Tacticals, but I've heard nothing but good stuff about the 3-12x.

Re: Recomend a Mk12 SPR Scope

dude, just go correct and save up for a nightforce compact. its WORTH it.
And if you really want a correct build, be patient and wait for a used compact 2.5-10x24 pop up. That'll be damn hell worth it.

This is what I dd. I do own some of the Bushnell variety, not a bad option either.

I am not doing a exact build, but why is the nightforce WORTH it?

I know they make some good products, just curious

Re: Recomend a Mk12 SPR Scope

Because it's a good scope. Good glass, good adjustments, extremely sturdy. NF scopes are the kind of scopes you hang on to because of their dependability.

edit: I have a couple of the bushnell 3-12s. Everything about them is great except the eyebox. It is way too tight.

Re: Recomend a Mk12 SPR Scope

You should be able to find a used Nightforce 2.5-10X32 for around $1K. That's the route I'd go.

Nightforce scopes have good glass, a very robust build, lots of internal adjustment and track perfectly.
