The Surgeon uses a larger footprint than the Badger, so filling in and patching will be required. Other way around is much easier. If the stock is already cut for the Surgeon, that is a pretty good argument for actually using the Surgeon.
If you know Mark Gordon is who you are going to send the work to, then why are you asking this question on an internet forum instead of directly to Mark? He does top shelf work and would be very familiar with the footprint of both DBMs.
