Hi GUYS
Apart from the weight difference is there any advantage of the ULTRALITE rings? Steel to me seems stronger?
I am putting these on a Remington 700 SPS VARMINT 308 with a NIGHTFORCE one piece 20 MOA base with A VORTEX PST 6-24x50 on top. Will LOW rings fit?
Is there any issue with zeroing at 100 yds with this set up?

Many thanks for your answers. Forgot one question.

Can you mount the Nightforce level with the Nightforce Ultralite rings? will it look odd as it seems to be made to go with the steel rings.

Again thanks for the help.

Re: NIGHTFORCE ULTRALITE RINGS OVER STEEL???

The UL's have a rockwell hardness greater than steel according to the guys at Nightforce. If i remember correctly tensile strength has a direct correlation to the rockwell hardness scale. So if all this information is true then yes, in fact the ul's are stronger than steel.

Yes low Nightforce rings would be the ring of choice for that set up. No issues to zero at 100

Steel vs. UL rings?
Same quality and price
UL will not rust if you neglect them.

I love the UL rings but if steel gives you more confidence then go with it.
If you break either one of them you already have bigger issues. (scope, base screws, barrel, etc may be damaged)

Low rings should just work (.885)
On a Sako TRG, the lows will work with a 50mm but not with a 56mm scope.

What base are you using? I've got a near that works great with my 56 an low rings.

Re: NIGHTFORCE ULTRALITE RINGS OVER STEEL???

The difference between steel and ultralite (usually a form of aluminum) is a wash imo.

Low rings should fit and you should have no problems zeroing it.

Not familiar with nightforce rings I'm sure they are fine but when I go over 100$ for rings I go seekins.

Re: NIGHTFORCE ULTRALITE RINGS OVER STEEL???

The benefits of the Nightforce UL rings far outweigh the steel option in my opinion.

You give up no strength to steel through the use of Titanium crossbolts and clamping jaw. They have actually been proven stronger in independent tests. The UL's are 1/3 the weight of the steel rings. The edges are micro radiused and the finish is hard anodized. The steel rings will rust. The UL rings do not need to be lapped when used on NF scopes and most likely not on any other 30mm scope tubes. The UL rings do not leave ring marks on NF scopes. There are 6 available heights in the UL and only 4 in the steel variants.

The UL rings have been in use by the thousands by NSW and CRANE for almost 8 years now with no reported problems. If there was an Elite fighting group that was gonna break things, I think they would have accomplished it.

With no difference in price between the two, the answer is clear in my opinion.

Re: NIGHTFORCE ULTRALITE RINGS OVER STEEL???

I bought a set when I was in Afghanistan for my M14 and they worked great. Since getting out of the Army I have used them on my LMT M4 and my Savage 220 slug gun. They have never left a rub or blemish or ring mark on any optic I have used them with, they are a fine product. If they made 34mm I’d have them in place of my Badger rings on my PM II.
