Re: Fast Twist 22-250
I own two 22-250Ackleys. One is a 12 twist. The other is 14" twist, shoots 65 grain Bergers very accurately but 70 grain Berger VLD's are all over the place.
I think the secret is the velocity. The 14 twist mentioned above is 29" long and the 65 grain Bergers have a MV of 3925fps, which is more than enough to stabilize that bullet.
I don't know what your definition of "fast twist" might be, but it is my educated, (but wild ass guess) that you probably don't need an 8 twist to stabilize a 75 grain bullet depending on your barrel length and resultant velocity. It's amazing what a little velocity can do in a relatively slow twist barrel and, (in my opinion) you get far better barrel life. And, versatility. you will still be able to shoot 55/60 grain bullets without over-spinning them, possibly blowing them up? But, if you must have a 7 or 8 twist, you pretty much have a dedicated rig. And (again, in my experience) those VLD bullets will not anchor a coyote, out yonder.

edit: PS I don't think you can buy the 65 Berger any more but the 64 is available.
