Anyone here use a Hornady progressive for bulk batches of .223? I've noticed that one in ten on average want to feed into the plate crooked and was hoping someone had found a solution for this other than keepin the left hand ready to correct it. I know different manufacturers will have different thicknesses for their rims, but hope there may be an easy solution to the problem.

Maybe try polishing where it feeds in on the carrier plate and mount the press sturdy so it wont wiggle plus dont drive it like you stole it...Keep it at an easy pace...I think its the case being pushed to quickly or possibly the press loosely mounted allowing the case to get into the death wobble or a bit of to much traction causing the case drag and jump a little maybe?

I think you're probably partially right with the surface needing polished. The bench it's on is a series of solid oak doors and it's lag bolted into that nicely.

I love my LNL AP...BUT...
One thing I found that needed a bit of improvement was the shellplate would rock somewhat on the base.
This would sometimes cause what you're experiencing due to the small size of the case- and also would allow the spring retainer to get stuck under the shellplate due to the "slack space" that could happen.
I replaced the small factory washer under the single center allen screw on the shellplate with a large fender washer, and that removed most all of the "play" with the shellplate.

Re: .223 on LNL AP

I have an update. Today after having the LnL set up for 9mm, I went to readjust the feed tube for .223 and didnt bother to mess with the shell plate. Much to my surprise, the press began to feed varying .223 cases like a dream. It seems the #8 shell holder is just loose enough to accept most of my cases while still holding them for resizing. Has anyone else given this a try?

Re: .223 on LNL AP

I had to tweak mine considerably before it would feed 99%. The timing is important as well. The case should feed at the right moment that it doesn't brush up against the shell plate during rotation. I also had to dabble with the correct feeder V-notched thingy, they are all different lengths. I also had to slightly polish the groove the case retention spring rides in, actually I polished all the grooves the the spring comes up against, I am still on the same spring after a few thousands of reloads and case preps.

Is your luck with assorted brass? I think I have the timing pretty good, and have tried to polish everything... I still had the occasional misfeed.

Re: .223 on LNL AP

yep, my 55g fmj I load are on brass of every different manufacturer immaginable. Try a different "speed" when actuating the press handle. When I try to get going too fast, the case has tilted. I saw a guy somewhere who took a piece of scotch tape and taped over the spring groove and spring where the case enters the shell plate. I admit its not desirable of a press/casefeeder to need that, but I guess it eliminated his issues.

Re: .223 on LNL AP

I just finished doing 2,000 556/223 loads on my AP, i just got the Case Feeder and this was the first big batch I have done with it, man did it save some time but it also does cause you to figure out the best speed to avoid tipping. I kept having a problem with the case hitting something around the area when it crossed over the spring and tipping. I cut a 2" piece of clear tape, taped it from where the case drops to where it fits snug in the plate and it worked great from there once i got the speed down. I was loading 24.5 or 24.8 TAC (for LC brass I had) with 55g FMJBT. My LNLAP worked fantastically
