I am looking at what I have been told is an older AIAW 300 Win Mag barrel, 24”, fluted, not threaded. It is not near as heavy as the 26" factory barrel on my AW 300WM.

There are no markings anywhere I could find. The receiver threads look correct but looking at the chamber face there appears to be a grove cut (looks like a o-ring grove) in the face. I don’t want to pull my barrel to see if it is grooved. My spare 308 doesn’t have a grove.

Has anyone seen a “factory” barrel with no markings? One with a grove?

Sorry, don’t have pictures.
Thanks in advance
J

Re: Older AIAW Barrel Question/Help

I believe it just happens to depend on the barrel blank. I've got 2 barrels, one with the groove and one without.

Thanks, that answers one part of the question.
The one you have with the grove, does it have proof marks, SN, or other markings?

Both of these are customs from GAP.
