Gents,,,,,,Need some help.

Need to put this rail:

http://www.accu-shot.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=92

using this hardware:

http://www.accu-shot.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=73

on the bottom of my stock so I can run an AccuShot PRM monopod.

Help me out so i don't RUIN my stock.

Hole diameter?
Hole depth?
Epoxy? JB Weld? Steel? Aluminum?
Should I lube the screws and insert while epoxy dries and then remove so I have a threaded surface or permanently glue the bolts into the stock?

THANKS!!!

EDIT: Should I / Could I remove the lone swivel stud and use that hole as a mounting point or leave it? Does it unscrew or is it permanently affixed?

You can definitely use the swivel stud threads for one of the screws. Slide a smaller allen wrench through the hole and you should be able to unscrew it with no problem. I'm not sure how to get the receiver for the other screw into a finished stock like that. The only thing I've seen involves drilling an access hole in through the back but with the shape and the stud hardware already in there as well as the aluminum rod I'm not sure that's a good idea.

Since you mentioned epoxy you could probably drill up from the bottom and mount the screw receiver upside down. I would measure the part that extends farthest and use that diameter bit to drill a 1" hole, then use a piloted counterbore with that bit to take out a larger circle about 1/4" deep. Then install the screw receiver and epoxy over it (with a screw threaded in with release compound on it). I have the counterbore from this thread if you need it:

Hopefully someone else can provide knowledgeable input on whether that small bit of epoxy on top would provide a good enough hold to prevent it from pulling out. If not, maybe a small wood screw can go directly into the stock?

The B&C A3 has an aluminum block in the forend that can be drilled and tapped 10-32 just like the sling stud. You need a 1 inch long 10-32 button head cap screw. </div></div>

I thought he was talking about the foregrip also at first but he wants to put a monopod on the back.

Re: Installing rail to bottom of B&C Medalist A5

correct.....im trying to add a small rail to bottom of buttstock so I can throw a monopod on it.

glad to know i just pull the one swivel stud.

kinda nervous about drilling hole for second point though.

oh well....i reckon i'll just throw some epoxy in there with the screw, let it set for 24 hours and hope for the best.

i'd like to be able to tap it for threads but not sure of the pitch and/or location to pick up such a thing.

Re: Installing rail to bottom of B&C Medalist A5

If you want to tap it you should be able to pick up a tap at Ace Hardware or a similar place. As far as choosing the right one, just compare the screw to the ones in the hardware store screw aisle and see what the matching one is labeled. You can even try the same nut on it and the comparison screw to make sure that the thread pitch is exactly the same.

Re: Installing rail to bottom of B&C Medalist A5

roger....thanks gents.

think im tap it, test em and cover the threads in either Gorilla Glue or JB weld and drive em home.

Re: Installing rail to bottom of B&C Medalist A5

Whoa!!!! You can use the existing stud to affix a rail. No drilling, tapping, epoxy, cement or gorilla goop. Installs in 2 minutes and will not ruin your stock. Looks good and is solid! I had an A5 with an Accushot monopod using this rail.

Mine is made by Blackhawk. They call it "Swivel stud picatinny rail adapter". I may have bought from Brownells? Cost is $25'ish? I replaced the stock with a chassis but I still have the rail. I might be persuaded to send it to you for free?

M.......

Re: Installing rail to bottom of B&C Medalist A5

mgilley....your a solid dude but i already ordered the BT17 (?) from AccuShot....Gonna pull the stud and epoxy some brass inserts from Brownells into that hole and drill another pilot hole and plug those badboys. gonna be a bit more professional and allow me to remove the rail one day if i choose.

thanks again to all!!!!!!!!!
