Hi guys

Hi guys

I am looking to buy a reliable FL sizing die for my rem 700 police. which type do you suggest the one with bushing or a body die from redding and then using a neck sizing die . I seen Hornady have some but id like your opinion first before buying. what about the Hornady Match Grade not much info is available on them on the net and what size of bushings are you using

thanks
fellas

Re: FL Dies

Just by a Redding Type S FL die, measure a loaded round and buy a bushing .002 smaller, for get about NS only, and buy a headspace gauge to set the die up.

Re: FL Dies

There are no automatically 'reliable' or 'unreliable' sizer dies but there are some very unreliable users. Just buy a die set that's labeled for your cartridge. In spite of all their individual fan's hype, there is prescious little difference between what can be done with any so-called 'competition' die set (with or without neck bushings, short sliding seater guides or micrometer gadgets) and others. And, unless you're a confirmed range rat rather than a practical shooter, the small value of using the more costly types rarely sees them match the price. After all, a lot of people have made some very high grade ammo with conventional dies for a very long time!

That said, and personal preferences for Dodge, Ford or Chevy aside, there are two levels of rifle dies; Forster and Redding are tied for first place and all the rest are tied for a very close second place. What we get with any individual die is luck of the draw, they're all made to the same SAAMI tolerances so there's as much difference between any two dies by the same maker as there is between makers.

Re: FL Dies

any sizer will work, reliability has nothing to do with it, it is not a car or moped.
some brands are more expensive than others but all do the job of resizing if you set it up properly.
cheers.

"i've been happy with the rcbs FL competition dies i bought locally."

I would guess that you don't have a concentricity gage yet?
