Hey everyone. Newbi here. I just ordered the Savage Mark II FV SR. It should be here in a week or so and I would like to go ahead and order a scope and bi-pod now so by the time it gets to me I'll have it ready to go. I want to be able to get a really good grouping at 100 + yards. I'm hoping I can talk to people that already own this gun and already have a nice scope mounted. Advise, pictures ect would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Savage Mark II FV-SR .. which scope and bipod?

Try one of the Falcon 4-14 or 5-25 FFP Mil/Mil scopes. They work very nice on a 22LR trainer. I just sold my 5-25 Falcon to my buddy for his 22LR. They pop up in the optics for sale section frequently. One of the new fixed power Super Snipers in Mil/Mil would do nicely as well. Those are the only budget FFP scopes that I can think of at the moment.

Ammo is a major factor with all 22 rifles. Check out the 22 rimfire section of this forum. You will find a wealth of info on ammo, scopes, stocks, and practical advise. Try Lapua, Eley, Wolf Match, RWS, and SK Jaged. All rifles are different, and what one rifle shoots well, another rifle will not. You're going to have to buy a box of several kinds of ammo and just find out what the rifle shoots best. I'd recommend shooting 5 shot groups at 25 to 50 yards to start. That should give you an idea of which ammo your rifle groups best with. Then after you have found a brand the rifle really likes you can move out to 100. Keep in mind, your rifle may out shoot you, so don't be discouraged by group size. I can't tell you how many times I have been next to guys at the range that are all kinds of pissed off at their rifle. "This piece of shit won't shoot straight", then an experienced marksman gets behind their gun and surprise, the thing is a fcuking hammer!

You might consider bedding your action. I bedded the action in my Savage Mark II into a good quality wood stock and my groups shrank considerably. I used DevCon steel bed. Just take your time and don't half-ass it or get in a rush.

Harris is the only bipod I would recommend. I'm sure there are others out there, but you get what you pay for. I have been using them for years and have yet to have one break.

Good luck!

I put a Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14 mil dot on mine. Works famously.

scope? 1st set some parameters:
Thoughts on picking a scope for a rimfire.

then do a pros and cons list, and makes and models that match your budget and the needs wants on the pros / cons list.

otherwise you'll hear anything from the 69.00 centerpoint scope at walmart (not really a bad one for the money) to a 1690.00 nightforce.

Yes unfortunately. If it ever becomes a problem I'll probably order a 20MOA base from DIP.
