Hi all. My first post and I have to say that this site has a lot of very useful info.

I would like to purchase a suppressor, but would like to hear the difference one makes in noise level, but not with subsonic ammo. I shoot mostly hunting ammo with 2900 - 3060 fps (+/-). I want one for my 270 Win and I also have a 300 WSM.

I won't shoot them again without noise reduction. Does any one know of a dealer in Michigan who would give me a demonstration? I would even pay a reasonable fee. I may be willing to travel to another state or look for some one in Florida when I go there later.

Re: Seeking Suppressor Demo In Michigan

I have a couple you could try but Im in SE Michigan about 4-5 hours. The issues with the dealers they dont want to go the extra effort to thread a barrel and actually use one they just tell you its the best. I have seen alot of diffrent cans at matches, thuderbeast, sas, gemtech, swr and a few others. I wouldnt do anything but titanium and I would also try to compare a few but thats about the best you aare going to get. No dealer carrys all of them but try to find one that carrys some. Make sure you only buy it if its in stock or you will be waiting. I had to jump thru a few hoops to get mine but it was well worth thge wait.

clear as mud??? LOL

In mid-michigan, Kevin Williams gun shop in Auburn is great to work with and has a knowledgable, friendly staff. They had my suppressor ordered and in their hand within 2 weeks and were very helpful with the application process.

Sheridan arms is an option in that area as well and they do have occassional suppressor shoots, but based off several orders I've had through them, I'd be cautious about having them order a can for you.

I understand that a dealer wouldn't want to thread barrels and then which one to demo. Couldn't do them all. I'll see what posts come up here that may have one and closer to me. Thanks

Kevin is a good guy! I was just in there yesterday and found out that he IS going to have a suppressor demo shoot. This weekend I think. I think most of it will be .223 cans but he might have a 30 cal can too. Very good guy to deal with and has great prices.

I talked to him earlier and he will be at a shoot on Sunday. He says he will have several rifles there, one being a 308. That will work for me.

Thanks everyone for responding.

Re: Seeking Suppressor Demo In Michigan

I met Kevin Williams, from Williams Gun Shop, in Auburn, MI, today at the range. He had numerous weapons and suppressors. It was the first time I experienced suppressed weapons in person. When sanding next to the shooter I was amazed at the noise reduction. When I shot the 308 rifle I got some type of noise transfer from my ear muffs touching the stock, so not as quiet shooting as it was standing next to the shooter.

I won't go without hearing protection even with suppressors, but wish I would have brought my ear plugs in stead of muffs, so I could have experienced it without the muffs. Since recoil was negligible, I should have held it straight in front of me off my shoulder.

Kevin is a great guy and offered everyone there an opportunity to shoot various weapons with suppressors. The first cold bore round is a little noisier than subsequent rounds. The bottom line is, I gotta have one.

Re: Seeking Suppressor Demo In Michigan

SSG3K I am looking into getting a suppressor and was wondering if you were anywhere near Howell. I sent you a PM with my contact info if you would be willing to let me check out what you got instead of hearing buy brand A or buy brand B.
