I can't/won't move back there until they do. The bizarre thing is I think they need a liberal in office to get them legalized. Every one of my friends up there that are into guns are all hardcore liberals. Only the few conservative friends I have think all guns are rubbish. That was in the burbs of the Cities though so they're an odd sort

Last I heard Dealers can own them now...I know in Missouri when that law passed you just needed to get your C&R license then go through all the paperwork...Dont know about MN.

My wife and I spent 10 winters in that God forsaken, cold siberian wasteland and moved to Missouri, got 5 cans now.
Leave while you can, no pun intended.....maybe just a little.

Probably not for a while. I live in WA but grew up in MN. Last year I met with two other Minnesotans and we spoke with Senator Wolf about a silencer bill. Senator Wolf was agreeable to sponsoring a bill as long as she got the support of other Senators. This did not happen.
A year ago only the police could use silencers, but only for tactical emergency response. This seems to rule out the swat teams training with them also which seems to be a very stupid idea. Last year the DNR also lost the right to use them for animal control purposes as their exemption sunset. Earlier this year they got that exemption back without a sunset provision.

I have been trying to get people to talk to their senators and representatives, but the response has at times been a bit hostile. Some people just seem to think that they need to sit back and wait for the political climate to change before they take any action other than bitch on gun forums.
In WA it is the Democrats that are taking the lead in reducing gun restrictions. It is the Republicans that are the only ones telling me that they do not support gun bills.
Until Minnesotans learn that they need to educate their legislators instead of letting the gun control freaks do it for them, they are going to have to live with the restrictions that are in place now. The MNCRA is working on a bill, but I know little of their workings.

If more people were raised around hunting and firearms safety/respect I think there'd be a lot less gun control craze, or at least focused into other areas like firearms safety and education.

Until Minnesotans are willing to push their legislators into not only sponsoring a bill, but aggressively backing it are they going to make any significant progress towards restoring the right to own certain firearms in the state. If a politician sponsors a bill and does not aggressively push it into committee, then it is nearly as bad as opposing the bill. Sponsoring a bill but not supporting it is just paying lip service to the constituants that elected them.
When was the last time any MN legislator aggressively sponsored a bill to restore the right to possess silencers or other firearms that are heavily restricted there? There is a big difference between sponsoring a bill just to watch it die and pushing it into committee where it will eventually reach the floor for a vote.

Ranb, I like your work and efforts, but I stand by my earlier post. UNTIL MN gets a conservative BASE, they can kiss cans goodbye, a BASE does not necessarily mean elected officials, it means the PEOPLE, and I guarantee you it WILL be the conservative gun owners who will make the push for the legislation to own suppressors, and then VOTE for it in the end... there obviously is not a strong enough BASE "yet?", and very well may never be.

That's not it either. A person does not have to be conservative to be a gun owner that actually supports the right to keep and bear arms. I am not conservative by a long shot. I am a pro-choice, atheist gun owner that feels the less government we have the better. The GOP really pisses me off with their attempts to interfere with how Americans live. About the only think I like about the GOP is their pro-gun (barely) platform.
Bring your non-gun-owning friends to the rifle range and educate them. Pay a visit to your Senators and Representatives to educate them on gun ownership and why it is not a threat to public safety. Unless a person is willing to take time off from work or their leisure time to personally educate their legislators and fellow residents, they cannot call themselves pro-gun.

Ventura was probably our best bet on NFA items, but without the backing of the rest of the gov he didn't have much of a chance, and that was for all parties involved. Besides, we all know it isn't conservatives or liberals that don't want the masses to have easy access to firearms, it's the rich that don't want us to have them

I dunno, I remember deer hunting in a swamp near Aitkin as a kid and it sucked. I saw more deer at home in the burbs. Which eventually led to my brother and I bowhunting and finally filling our tags every year (and some harvest ones, too). I remember lots of raccoons, coyotes, and black bears aplenty. There was the occasional, terrifying run-in with a moose. Some wolves, but they seemed to steer clear of people most of the time.
I actually miss the winters up there. You can dress up to keep warm, but down here Texass you can only dress down so far before the neighbors complain. I pretty much avoid the ranges in the summer, whereas I used to go shooting all winter up north. Nice thing was you didn't have to wait long for the barrel to cool between shots. But I've got my first can on order so I'll make it worthwhile being here, and maybe when I get a chance to move back north it'll be to my home state of Wisconsin or become a Yooper, both places where cans are allowed.

+1 to 300..........there are so many Carp running and ruining the rivers that it should be open sport.
beyond that - very true with finding the 'right' regions for what your looking for....especially pheasant. But good ol whitetails and geese are o plenty, as well as coyotes and wild turkeys are even gaining ground.
+1 to 300..........there are so many Carp running and ruining the rivers that it should be open sport.
beyond that - very true with finding the 'right' regions for what your looking for....especially pheasant. But good ol whitetails and geese are o plenty, as well as coyotes and wild turkeys are even gaining ground.

I can't help but laugh at that because, after all, it is true. I mean it's not like they're used to butter toast or wash my car. The problem is that people think that's a bad thing. After all, nobody's going to stop the next Joker with a plastic spoon. Whether violence or force, the gun knows not; and since guns (aka: instuments of death that are only used to kill) will never dissapear from the hands of those who would use them for evil, we citizens must forever retain them for possible future use.
Regarding suppressors though, regardless of the state in question, how often do politicans grant us MORE liberty these days, versus taking it from us. If I'm correct, even the great (greatest?) state of Texas doesn't allow thier citizens to carry openly. I'll continue to vote appropriately, but I'm not going to hold my breath that I'll ever be able to buy a can in this state.
And to those who make the comments regarding the Vikings and Twins...well...at least the Wild won't suck this year!

Lived in Deer river Minn for 8yrs lived in alexandria Minn for 2. Spent afew summers in Effie minn. seen few deer crossed a black bear from time to time and that was about it. In half an after noon you can kill more in SD than minnesota PERIOD.
