So which 308 mags for a DPMS style lower

Re: So which 308 mags for a DPMS style lower

I have had issues in the past with the DPMS factory and C-products aftermarket mags. The only mags that have been 100% in all the different rifles I've used them in have been the 20LR PMAGs.

I have some cut-down/pinned floorplate reduced capacity 20LR PMAGs that I got from MidwestPX. Ty (the proprietor there) started doing the 20LR PMAG cut-downs/blocks after many folks on here asked for them due to needing mags for hunting (in states that regulate mag capacity for hunting rifles), and for competitors needing shorter mags for shooting in improvised/awkward positions. The limited cap mags from Ty are just as reliable as the originals and will serve you well!!

See here for more details:

These look interesting. I have been looking for mags that are shorter for use from the bench, as well as prone. I am curious which size you prefer and your applications???

I don't want to derail the OP's thread too much, but it comes down to personal preference. The longer cut-downs will probably work better for most people as they have some addt'l surface area out of the magwell which lends to quicker, more secure grip on the mag and assists with hurried tactical reloads. The shorter/5-7 round cut-downs are flush with the magwell on my P-308 which I like for hunting, but not so much for other uses. Again...to each their own.

Armalite's use a different mag pattern altogether. I believe they are offering a model that uses the KAC pattern mags now but its the exception.

pmags work very well and i especially like the anti-tilt followers. also, im not sure if they make them for the 308 but they used to make an upgrade kit for ar- steel mags

Re: So which 308 mags for a DPMS style lower

As I expected the top answer to OP question is Pmag. It's all I ever used in my LR-308 and all I will ever buy for it, or any other AR I might ever own. Never had a mag related problem with my 4 LR-20 Pmags. I'm going to buy more at upcoming gun show.

I had issues with the first two mags that came with my AP4. I returned them to DPMS, and they sent me two more. Same shit. Ended up purchasing Pmags and the guns run flawless since. I have two mags cut down to hold like 8 rounds for hunting and shooting from a bench. Easy to do.
