Rifle Scopes Need Help Picking a Larue Mount for a HDMR

Just got a HDMR with the G2 and am trying to pick out the right Larue mount for it. If there's a better option than Larue in the same price range I'm all ears. The scope will mainly sit on a 20moa rail on my bolt gun but it could go onto an AR platform for deer hunting or prairie dogs. So I'm wondering if the 1.44" mount is high enough for the bell to clear a continuous top rail. Just trying to figure out which 0moa mount will suit the AR platforms and not be too high for my bolt gun.

They make a 1.285" high mount as well. I believe with the 50mm Objective that will still clear a continuous rail as well.

If you need a cantilever style mount the 1.44" is plenty high.

I would pass on the Larue and get Badger's new one piece scope mount for the 34mm tubes. I have one on my GAP10 and its very nicely made.

ADM Recon mount is a viable option as well.

I am running an HDMR in a ADM on a flat top AR, and very happy with it. I have a bolt gun now that is borrowing it for the time being. I am running a 0moa base on the bolt, and 20moa ADM.

Mounted the ADM to my EGW 20moa rail. Meh

Way too high.

While the mount seems to be well made and I really like the design, it showed up looking like it was shipped from China. Shipped from the factory in a oil filled ziplock in a plain white box with two blue lock-tite samples and no instructions. Even with all of the oil the screw caps had rust in them.

I'm not posting this to flame the retailer or manufacturer, only to provide information to anyone else looking for the same setup that I am.

Maybe what I'm wanting to do with a one piece mount can't be done to work optimally on a bolt action and an AR.

In the words of my buddy SPEAK338 "I can park my truck under there".

WOW that was hasty.... I put an Aadmount on my SASS and really like it! If I did not already have a set of Badger rings to go on my TVP .260 that I will be ordering in a month I would buy another one of those.!!!

Out of curiosity, what do you guys like about the ADM mount vs the Larue?

I know a lot of guys don't like Mark, so besides that aspect of things.

Bendigo, I too was thinking of doing what you tried. I came to the same conclusion that you found through your trial. I'm thinking the best option would be to set up the bolt gun with proper rings first. For the limited AR use, I think the scope sitting on a riser would do the trick. I don't think it'd be too pretty, but it would probably work fine for a hunting trip or two.

I've owned two LaRue mounts. One was very bad about coming loose, even when torqued properly. I had a constantly wandering zero.

Both ate into my upper receivers, which is only a cosmetic problem, but a problem the ADM doesn't have.

Both my LaRue mounts shifted quite a bit between mounting/dismounting, despite following the instructions. They certainly don't work as well as Mark and Todd say, at least in my experience.

I do however see the merits of a mount, providing I can get one that functions as advertised. I've taken Frank "lowlight"'s advice and I've ordered a 0 MOA GDI PROM which I'm anxiously awaiting. Its going to hold a S&B PM-II and switch between an AR and hopefully an AI eventually.

SASS, I'm not saying it's not a good mount. I bought it because it's highly recommended. I'm saying for the money that it should not come packed like a mosin nagant with rusty screws.

The mount doesn't work for a bolt action setup cause it's too tall. Unless you have an adjustable cheek piece that that goes that high. I put the extra high cheek piece on the rifle and it's still .75-1" too short.

2ac, I think you're right. A riser is the best bet for making the scope work optimally on both platforms.

For my AR I have a Larue mount on my ACOG and also a scope, I am able to take both on and off and swap them around and never wory about my zero.

Although, they are eating into my rail, they wore to a certain point when new, now they set in.

For me they work, but a buddy of mine has issues with his not holding zero when he dismounts his optic.

Quality control issue......?

Re: Need Help Picking a Larue Mount for a HDMR

For AR's they're great, along with the ADM and Bobro and GDI mounts too.

Why anyone would ever consider putting one on a bolt gun I don't know.

Get a good set of rings like Seekins or Badger or Spuhr, etc. and forget that silliness for anything but an AR.
