I know the HTG uses the little SOTECH Skid Plate...the A5 the big one...but I had to custom cut a big skidplate to fit the McM A3. Has anybody put one on an A1-3? If so, what size did you use and how did it fit?

TIA

Because the A3 is WAY too small to use on a McMillan A3. I have several A3 size...fit HTG only.

This is an A5 trimmed to fit an A3 stock. A normal A5 is too big(velcro over the barrel), and the A3 size barely covers the bottom of the fore-end, leaving the velcro right around the corners of the bottom of the fore-end.

Re: Skid Plate for McM A1-3

Not intending to sidetrack this thread, but have to make some comments due to a couple already made about using Skid Plates on different stocks.

I have a SO Tech Skid Plate in A5 size mounted on a McMillan A4 stock and it fits and works great.

I have two McRees chassis stocks, one for an FN/SPR, one for a Rem 700 (bought to use for Stiller action build I'm working on). The SO Tech Skid Plate in A5 size that I have does not fit either McRees stock very well in my opinion. I have about 7/16ths inch of excess Skid Plate sticking up on both sides beyond the top edge of the barrel channel area on the McRees stock. It will work, but it just does not look very nice to me.

Bottom line is that I would not recommend using the A5 Skid Plate for a McRees stock. I gave up trying to even find a Skid Plate in a size to fit my McRees stocks.

Re: Skid Plate for McM A1-3

The A5 also fits the manners t3 very well. The A5 fits big fore ends; the A3 fits the HTG and Manners T. Its the middle sized fore ends that fall into the hole in the middle.

Re: Skid Plate for McM A1-3

I currently run a A-5 on my McRee and it fits great. There was a batch of A-3 which were run small, and they have been corrected. The latest batch are run correctly and should fit very well.
In regards to having another company produce a Skidplate, it is a pattent protected product.
Feel free to contact me at any time regarding any aspect of discussion of the SSP.
Thanks,

Just in case anyone missed it.

Phil, what are the measurements for a correctly sized a3? Sounds like I may have my solution.

Nevermind, I checked the specs on your site. 4 inches is way too narrow for an a3 fore-end. The modified one pictured above is 5.75x5.75, and as you can see, fits the a3 stock perfectly.

Re: Skid Plate for McM A1-3

Maelstrom,
Making the modification would be very easy. The simplest way I see is to get one which you are happy with the fit, and then mark exactly where on the SSP you want to have access holes for the sling mounts. Then you can send it back and we can either mount a grommet, or potentially heat cauterize the material.
If you can find someone else out there who deals in the custom arena, they should be able to punch out the grommet holes, or use a leather hole punch of large diameter to punch out a clean hole. Either way, I would be interested in seeing the final product.
If you mark it and send it back, I will take care of it for free. Please contact me first to arrange details to expedite it for you.

Re: Skid Plate for McM A1-3

Foxtrotuniform,
The SSP comes with industrial strength velcro which adheres to the sides of your stock.
It does not mar the paint or damage anything and can be removed when desired.

Re: Skid Plate for McM A1-3

19Scout77,
If you have the older A-3 which was incorrect and did not fit, you can send it back and get either an A-5 or the correct size A-3. Your choice, but please contact me so I can expedite for you if you decide to go this route.
Excellent work on the sizing, great looking stick!
Thanks for the input and great pics.

Sounds good to go, thanks for the response. You mentioned a new style specifically for the Mcree, any info for when that might be available?

Re: Skid Plate for McM A1-3

The prototype is done, but unless there is a market demand, it probably wont make it to the public. That is a Scott McRee driven decision. I just make the gear!
