Just completed an OCW for my daughters Savage Max 1 Predator in 243 Win. I'm quite impressed with the gun. I shot my test using H4350 and 95gr Nosler BT's. I'm thinking that somewhere between 41.5 and 43.0 is my sweet spot. Thoughts?

Its comparing apples to oranges, but for what its worth, I have a Rem 700 Varmint, 26in, 1 in 9.125 twist, that likes 95 SMKs with 40.5 gr of H4350 at 2.800 COAL. Most of my accuracy loads are NOT hot at all. H4831 for 100gr plus.

I would re-shoot from 40.0 to 43.0 in 0.3gn increments. 0.5gns is apretty big jump for an OCW in that cartridge. I think that Nosler lists the 41.5 as their most accurate in the book, just for a point of reference.

Here are my velocities associated with each shot. For the original picture the charge weights are as follows:
Top Target:
1. 40.0gr (top center)
2. 40.5gr (top right)
3. 41.0gr (bottom left)
4. 41.5gr (bottom center)
5. 42.0gr (bottom right)
Bottom Target:
1. 43.0gr (top center)
2. 42.5gr (top right)

I don't think there's sufficient resolution to distinguish signal from noise. There's no clear trend and no visible nodes in the whole chart. Perhaps Huckelberry75 is right and you need less spread in your charge weights.

I agree that you are jumping to far between loads. Also, there seems to be vertical in almost everything. Maybe you did the test too quickly without proper cooling time between shots?

95gr Nosler BT
Seated to 2.248" (to ogive)
0.010" off lands measured with Hornady Bullet Comparator

I think you have something there, I'd probably start at the 41.5 and break it at .2 increments until I was happy.
My 223 you shot was broke at tenths until I got what I wanted, and believe it or not one tenth was good for three tenths in dispersion, both directions,(charge weight up or down).
Just what we found out down here in the heat, which I hope to heck you have forgotten by now.
Let me know how it ends up, I got a bunch of 95's I'd like to burn up in my 243, I just never started chasing a load.....

Things went well with my OCW testing yesterday. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing and my Oehler 35p wasn't getting readings. It was 3:00 PM and I was shooting due north so the sun would have begun setting in the west.....I'm guessing that was there reason I couldn't get velocity reading. Below are my 3 shot groups at 100 yards. The wind was gusting 5-7mph which I'm guessing accounts for my horizontal spread.
I'm still getting used to the accutrigger. This is our first savage and I'm not completely comfortable with the trigger. The shot labeled pull was actually the shot going off when I wasn't ready.
I think I'm going to go with 41.7gr of H4350 at 0.020" off the lands unless you all recommend something different.

If it were mine id load 10 each of 41.7gr at .020 and .010" then shoot again at 100. shoot all of them at the same POA then adjust scope up an inch for the next 10 shoot at same POA again.
Then measure groups. See what they tell you.
