Hey guys/gals, so I just finished installing a Timney on my Remmy 700. I am a bit confused on one issue: On the instructions provided by Timney, it shows both set screws (for weight of pull and overtravel) as having lock nuts around them, but only under the section regarding adjustment of overtravel do the instructions speak to unlocking/locking the nut to make the adjustment.

What adds to the confusion, is the pic shows the overtravel as the top screw and the weight adjustment is the bottom screw. Well, on my trigger, it is the bottom screw with the lock nut around the screw, which would lead me to believe it is the overtravel, and not the weight adjustment...

Any of you folks have experience with this? I definitely was not going to start messing with it until I find out, for sure, which is which.

My apologies if this is confusing...thanks anyhow.

ETA: here is a link to Midway's Timney, if you scroll down just below the trigger, in blue, it has the instructions for installation for reference.

Re: Timney Question for Rem 700

It is the bottom screw with the lock nut, I just installed and tuned one on a customers rifle. If you look up from the bottom, between the the trigger and the bolt release you should be able see the spring captured on the bottom screw.

Edited: Its the front screw just to clarify, also here is a link to the new updated instructions.

Re: Timney Question for Rem 700

thanks. So to clarify, I will loosen the lock nut, make the adjustment to the allen screw, then tighten the lock nut.

Also, since you just did this, when lightening the pull weight, does it take a significant amount of rotation to the allen screw to decrease the weight, or should I be rotating just fractions of a singular rotation?

Thank you much.

Correct. It will not take much to adjust the weight. Do you have a trigger pull gauge? If not I'd adjust in no more than 1/8 turn increments or less until desired pull is reached and the gun functions 100% safe with no drops of the firing pin during all safety tests.

Re: Timney Question for Rem 700

I do not have one, yet. It is on order. I was going to make one adjustment and function test it before I put I retorqued the action screws. To be honest, I actually think the pull weight from Timney (around 3lbs), feels really good compared to the tugging of my X Mark! Thank you very much for your help.
