Photos Mondo VORTEX barrel fluting

Hey Guys,

Thought you might like a few pics of a straight 1.250 barrel that I just finished up in the VORTEX style. This barrel has 270 deg. of rotation . Hope to have a coated version shortly. Hopefully, the next barrel will have a taper, so we can check out a different variation.

Are you using the aluminum blocks and nylon as a type of support? Have you considered a full size support opposite of the 4th axis?

The fixtures are just to dampen and minimize deflection. Rest assured the barrel is fully supported.

Now it needs to get painted one color then have the high points masked off so you can paint the grooves another this would look sick with something like a flat black in the grooves and olive drab on the high points.

Huge fan of the Vortex fluting on bolts. Looks just as good on a barrel man keep up the very nice work. Before long I will be having you flute some stuff for me.

Hey Guys,

This style has very shallow cuts and I would not recommend it for maximum weight removal. Probably shaves about half the weight of a normal fluting job. As soon as I get a few under my belt, I can give you a better idea. Thanks for the inquiry.

This was a blank when the work was done. Hopefully the customer will send some pics of the rifle and a range report and I will post them.

I imagine deep fluting would significantly reduce barrel weight, but what about barrel whip when used in magnum calibers?
