Concerns:

Too short bbl? I needed to rebarrel my savage 110 ba to push 300 scenars to even 2900. What can be expected for accuracy with the very best hand loads? Anyone who KNOWS please advise, thx

Re: Actual experience with trg 42

I get 2720fps with the 300 gr scenars. 91.0 grs of h1000 Seated to may length. That's not a Max load but I can only shoot out to 1000yrds right now.

The accuracy is insane. 300yds and out it is well under half moa.

I highly recommend the rifle.

For what reason do you need to run 2900fps? A 300 grain running at 2800 is about all your going to get without sticky cases or difficult bolt lift.

2900 is indeed a pretty tall order with 300s in a 338.

Not a TRG, but my partners 30" 338 goes right about 2900 with 300smks with 94gr Retumbo.

For ranges out to 2000 yards, 2800 or even less is quite adequate.

Re: Actual experience with trg 42

The whole reason for bbl length question is this, with my previously 26"
Savage, I tried all the slow powders and none worked well. Over a
Chrono it revealed that after a point adding more powder gained no more
Velocity? A very knowledgable smith said there ai t enough tube to
Burn slow powder, said to use 4831sc, shot ok but 2660fps dropped like
A rock. Put a 30" Douglas and 91.5 retumbo and 2850 fps! SO, this is why
I inquired about the 27" Sako is it suited for 250's only? I want to maximize
The 338lm, it's too heavy to carry too far anyway so why not put a bbl
On it that uses all that power, I'm not trying to keep it compact? If I need
A 36" bbl and can kick ass who cares? I'm not on a swat team that needs
Some 20" bbl 308 stubby urban piece of crap, I bought it for 1500
Yds and stuff, k done rambling, thx

Re: Actual experience with trg 42

I could do 1500 yards with a 16" 338lm. I instruct to 2000 meters using a stock TRG shooting 300's at 2750 and it has no issue shooting .58 moa at a mile. The Sako's for the last 3 years or so have a 10 twist and are well suited for 300's. PS whoever the smith was doesn't really know how a 338lm works, period.

Re: Actual experience with trg 42

90.8 retumbo, 300grn secnars, lapua brass seated to mag length.. i have some 3/8 inch groups but it holds .5 90% of the time when i do my part... I get about 2700 fps..I have some berger 300's but never got real decent results with them. Although i havent taken the time to really develop a load with that projectile.
