I'm going to get a Nightforce Benchrest scope in the near future and I'm trying to decide between the 8-32x56 and the 12-42x56. Mostly I'm concerned about the 12-42x56 having enough elevation to get me past 1,000 yards and still not have any problems at 100 yards. I'm using a Seekins 20moa base.

You'll be able to get past 1k with the canted base but not too much farther. You'll probably have to work with hold-overs.

I'd recommend the 5.5-22x56 over the 12-42x56 honestly. Much more travel, easier to sell if you have to, and it has my favorite NF reticle the MOAR.

Re: Nightforce Benchrest 12-42x56 elevation

What caliber?

There's only 45MOA of elevation adjustment in the scope, so you'll have to be shooting something really fast and efficient to get to 1000 with a 100 yard zero.

As mentioned, the 5.5-22x56 NXS or even 8-32x Benchrest would be a little better option if something like a .308 or a .50 Cal.

That is correct. I shoot a 308 and my NSX 8-32x NF ran out of adjustments at 1050 yards even with a 20 MOA cant top rail.

My NF benchrest is about 5 min short on elevation @ 1000. That is with a 20moa base. It is a 308.
